CR Atlético Portuense
Club de Rugby Atlético Portuense is a Spanish rugby union club. The club began as the rugby section of the Club Atlético Portuense in 1971, joining the junior and senior leagues in 1972. In 1982 the rugby section became an independent club and has been known as Club de Rugby Atlético Portuense since. Currently the 1st team competes in the 1ª División Regional competition, the third-highest level of Spanish club rugby. The club is based in the town of El Puerto de Santa Maria in Andalucia, Spain. CR Atlético Portuense play in yellow and green colours. Home games are played at the municipal sports centre "Polideportivo La Puntilla" and the club also has its own private clubhouse called ''La Bodeguita del Club de Rugby'', which is inside a restored sherry bodega and situated at Calle La Palma, 23. Rugby union is a growing team sport in Spain. As of 2019, there were 37,241 registered rugby union players in Spain, playing for 332 clubs in various divisions. The sport's governing body in Spain, the Spanish Rugby Federation (Spanish: Federación Española de Rugby), was founded in 1923. The 2015–16 División de Honor B, the XVIII edition since its inception in 1998, began on September 19, 2015 with the first matchday of regular season and will run through 29 May with the Promotion playoffs Final. For 2015–16 season, championship comprises 3 groups of 12 teams each. Competition format The season comprises Main stage or regular season and Promotion playoff. The 2013–14 División de Honor B, the XVI edition, began on October 12, 2013 with the first matchday of regular season and finished on May 25, 2014 with the Promotion playoffs final. For 2013–14 season, the championship expands to 3 groups of 8/9 teams each. FC Barcelona achieved the promotion to División de Honor six years after by defeating Sant Cugat 40–21 in the promotion playoff Final.
