CNN Daybreak
''CNN Daybreak'' is an American early morning newscast aired on CNN, anchored from New York by Carol Costello. It debuted on June 1, 1980, the same day CNN went live. First program The first program to air live weekdays on the network, it preceded ''American Morning'' at 5:00 a.m. ET. Similar to '' First Look'' on MSNBC, the program was based on covering the news stories of the morning without talk and analysis, usually with correspondents on location or taped stories from the previous evening. Until 2005 Until spring 2005, Daybreak was aired from the CNN Center in Atlanta. Costello then moved to New York following her marriage. The show moved to the Time Warner Center shortly after. In October 2005, as a cost-cutting measure, the program was canceled. The last official broadcast was on November 25, 2005. Carol Costello (born October 11, 1961) is an American television anchor and former host of ''CNN Newsroom''. In 2017, she left CNN to join sister network HLN, based in Los Angeles. In October 2018, HLN announced that Costello would be let go, with the final broadcast of her show taking place on October 26. Early life and education Costello is a graduate of Minerva High School, a public high school in Minerva, Ohio, and Kent State University where she earned a B.A. in journalism. After attending Kent State University, Costello worked at Akron, Ohio's WAKR-TV as an award-winning police and court reporter. Following that Costello was an Emmy-award-winning anchor/reporter for WSYX, the ABC affiliate, and WBNS 10-TV, the CBS affiliate in Columbus, Ohio. ''Early Start'' is an American news morning television show on CNN and also broadcast on CNN International. It premiered on January 2, 2012. Anchored by Christine Romans since 2014, the program airs weekdays from 5:00-6:00 a.m. ET. History By the end of its run in 2011, CNN's ''American Morning'' had fallen behind in the morning ratings. Executive vice president Ken Jautz, who joined in September 2010, decided to revamp the network's morning lineup by canceling the show altogether and replacing it with two new programs less focused on national politics than cable rivals ''Fox & Friends'' and '' Morning Joe''. Norma Quarles (born November 11, 1936) is an American television reporter and anchor. She worked for NBC, CNN and PBS during her career. Early life Quarles was born in New York City in 1936 into a Trinidadian family. Her father worked at Macy's in New York which led to her being cast as an extra in '' Miracle on 34th Street'' in 1947. Quarles attended Hunter College and City College of New York before earning her real estate license and moving to Chicago. Career She began her career in 1965 as a radio reporter in Chicago.
