History On August 24, 2000, New Brunswick Broadcasting Co., Limited received approval by the CRTC to operate a new adult contemporary music format at Saint John. In January 2003, the station changed formats to adult top 40, morphing to more of a modern adult contemporary direction (or an adult top 40/alternative rock mix). CIOK-FM (100.5 MHz) is a Canadian radio station in Saint John, New Brunswick, owned by the Maritime Broadcasting System. The station currently offers an adult contemporary format branded on-air as ''K100''. Prior to July 2009, it had an adult contemporary format before changing to CHR/Top 40. As of September 2015, the station moved back to AC. Format The format change happened a little after the same time CFQM-FM in Moncton changed from an Adult Contemporary format, to a Classic Hits format in July 2009. CIOK was being programmed out of Moncton and in order to cut costs, MBS decided that instead of flipping CIOK to a classic hits format they would change the format to a CHR/Top 40 format to more effectively compete with rival CHWV-FM. CHSJ is owned by Acadia Broadcasting, which also owns sister station CHWV-FM. History Originally known as CFBO, CHSJ's first broadcast was at 890 AM in March 1928, under the ownership of C.A. Rhythmic contemporary, also known as Rhythmic Top 20, Rhythmic Top 30, Rhythmic Top 40, Rhythmic CHR or rhythmic crossover, is a primarily American music-radio format that includes a mix of EDM, upbeat rhythmic pop, hip-hop and upbeat R&B hits. The Canadian Communications Foundation (CCF) was a Canadian nonprofit organization which documented the history of broadcasting in Canada, particularly radio and television networks, programs and broadcasters. The organization was established in 1967 and announced that it would begin wrapping up its work in 2023. Since 1995, the organization distributed its collection via its website. The CCF was established in 1967 by the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. Its mission: to "commemorate throughout Canada the development of electronic communications".
