CHOO-FM (defunct)
CHOO-FM was a radio station which broadcast on 101.7 MHz in Tofino, British Columbia, Canada from 2000 to 2002. History On July 15, 1999, P. L. M. Broadcasting Ltd. received approval from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to operate a new FM radio station at Tofino. The new station would broadcast with 50 watts of power with a mixture of a MOR format, including modern and light rock, classic and modern country music as well as local talent, and a talk show. The station also provided native languages like Nuu-chah-nulth language, consisting of stories and native music, along with two hours of french-language programming weekly. Funding for the station was to be provided by the Ma-Mook Development Corporation, a non-profit business development corporation created by the five Central Region First Nations of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council. Canadian Communications Foundation
The Canadian Communications Foundation (CCF) was a Canadian nonprofit organization which documented the history of broadcasting in Canada, particularly radio and television networks, programs and broadcasters. The organization was established in 1967 and announced that it would begin wrapping up its work in 2023. Since 1995, the organization distributed its collection via its website. The CCF was established in 1967 by the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. Its mission: to "commemorate throughout Canada the development of electronic communications". By 2020, the foundation started to wind down as its original mission was largely accomplished. The foundation's collected materials included interviews with broadcasters who had helped shape Canada's broadcast industry, a history of television stations, a Hall of Fame for broadcasters, and a collection of research articles on broadcasting in Canada. CHOO-FM (99.5 FM, "Boom 99.5") is a radio station in Drumheller, Alberta. Owned by Stingray Radio, it broadcasts a classic hits format. History The station was licensed by the CRTC in 2008, and officially launched at 8:00 AM MST on April 28, 2009 as ''99.5 Drum FM''. The CHOO callsign was formerly used at a radio station, known today as CJKX-FM in Ajax, Ontario from 1967-1994 and at another station, ( now defunct) in Tofino, British Columbia from 2000–2002. Both of these stations that used the CHOO callsign have no relation to the current CHOO-FM in Drumheller, Alberta. On January 7, 2019, Stingray Radio announced its intent to acquire CHOO-FM from Golden West Broadcasting; this would make it a sister to CKDQ. Drumheller
Drumheller is a town on the Red Deer River in the badlands of east-central Alberta, Canada. It is located northeast of Calgary and south of Stettler. The Drumheller portion of the Red Deer River valley, often referred to as Dinosaur Valley, has an approximate width of and an approximate length of . Drumheller was named after Samuel Drumheller, who, after purchasing the homestead of Thomas Patrick Greentree, had it surveyed into the original Drumheller townsite and put lots on the market in 1911. Also in 1911, Samuel Drumheller started coal mining operations near the townsite. Drumheller got a railway station in 1912. CJKX-FM (95.9 FM, "KX96") is a radio station licensed to Ajax, Ontario. Owned by Durham Radio, it broadcasts a country music format serving the Durham region. Its studios are located in Oshawa alongside sister stations CKDO and CKGE-FM. The station broadcasts in the HD Radio format. History The station was launched on November 21, 1967 as AM 1390 CHOO.
