Burgenland
Burgenland (; ; ; Bavarian language, Austro-Bavarian: ''Burgnland''; Slovene language, Slovene: ''Gradiščanska''; ) is the easternmost and least populous Bundesland (Austria), state of Austria. It consists of two statutory city (Austria), statutory cities and seven rural districts, with a total of 171 municipalities. It is long from north to south but much narrower from west to east ( wide at Sieggraben). The region is part of the Centrope Project. The name of Burgenland was invented/coined in 1922, after its territories became part of Austria. The population of Burgenland as of 1 January 2024 is 301,951. Burgenland's capital is Eisenstadt. Eisenstadt
Eisenstadt (; ; ; or ; ) is the capital city of the Provinces of Austria, Austrian state of Burgenland. With a population of 15,074 (as of 2023), it is the smallest state capital and the 38th-largest city in Austria overall. It lies at the foot of the Leitha Mountains hill range. From 1648 to 1921, Kismarton/Eisenstadt was part of the Habsburg monarchy, Habsburg Empire's Kingdom of Hungary and the seat of the Hungarian nobility, Hungarian noble family House of Esterházy, Eszterházy. During this time, the composer Joseph Haydn lived and worked in Eisenstadt as a court musician under the patronage of the Esterházy family. Mein Heimatvolk, Mein Heimatland
"Mein Heimatvolk, mein Heimatland” is the regional anthem of the Austrian state of Burgenland. It was adopted during the Austrofascist era, but relinquished 2 years later, and then readopted in 1949 during the Soviet Occupation. Origin and history A tender for the text of a state anthem for the Burgenland, the youngest of the Austrian states, was advertised by the Fatherland Front of the Federal State of Austria in October 1935 in the party newspaper ''Burgenländisches Volksblatt''. According to the announcement, the anthem should express "joy and pride in the Burgenland homeland and belonging to the Burgenland people" and "the bond with the great Austrian fatherland". The tender was decided in two phases, for text and music, by two jurys of 13 men. The Social Democratic Party of Austria ( , SPÖ) is a social democratic political party in Austria. Founded in 1889 as the Social Democratic Workers' Party of Austria (, SDAPÖ) and later known as the Socialist Party of Austria () from 1945 until 1991, the party is the oldest extant political party in Austria. Hans Peter Doskozil
Hans Peter Doskozil (; born 21 June 1970) is an Austrian politician of the Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) who is serving as the governor of Burgenland since February 2019. He previously served as minister of defence from 2016–2017. In the 2020 Burgenland state election, he led his party to win a majority of the seats in Burgenland's parliament. Due to an error in the count of his party’s national congress in June 2023, he was assumed to be the SPÖ's party leader from 3 to 5 June 2023, when the error was discovered and his opponent Andreas Babler was declared party leader. In Austrian politics, a statutory city ( German: ''Stadt mit eigenem Statut'' or ''Statutarstadt'' ), also known in Burgenland as free city ( German: Freistadt), is a city that is vested, in addition to its purview as a municipality, with the powers and duties of a district administrative authority.
