Balzan F.C.
Balzan Football Club is a Maltese Association football, football club from the village of Balzan that competes in the Maltese Challenge League, the second tier of Maltese football. The club was founded as ''Balzan Youths'' in 1937 and played in the top division between 2010 and 2025. They were renamed ''Balzan FC'' in June 2012. Balzan has qualified for the UEFA Europa League for five consecutive seasons (2015–16 to 2019–20). The club finished as runners-up in the Maltese Premier League in the 2016–17 and 2017–18 seasons and were finalists of the 2015–16 Maltese FA Trophy, which they lost on Penalty shoot-out (association football), penalties to Sliema Wanderers F.C., Sliema Wanderers after a goalless draw in the regular time. Andrew Cohen (born 13 May 1981) is a Maltese former footballer who played as a striker. Playing career Hibernians Cohen began his career with this boyhood team Hibernians, making the transformation from the youth squad to the senior squad during the 1999–2000 season. He made seven appearances in his debut season, scoring one goal, as Hibernians recorded a sixth-place finish in the Maltese Premier League. The 2000–01 season saw Cohen firmly establish himself in the Hibernians first team squad, as he helped to a fourth-place finish in the Maltese Premier League, making 19 appearances and scoring three goals. The following season, Hibernians won the league title with Cohen making 19 appearances. Victor Blasco Llorens (born 1 July 1994) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a winger for Maltese club Balzan. Balzan () is a municipality in the Northern Region of Malta, and together with Attard and Lija, forms part of the "Three Villages" (). The village originally consisted of a group of small dwellings and farms but eventually grew, becoming a parish in the 17th century. As of 2022, the town registered a population of 4,821 inhabitants. Etymology In Malta, many village names are identical to certain family names, as in Attard and Lija. It is believed by some, therefore, that the village inherited its name from a family whose family name was ''Balzan''. Balsan (Balzan) literally means ''tax collector'' or ''contributions collector''. The tax collector must have been from the same parish, at the time forming part of Birkirkara. 2008–09 Maltese FA Trophy
The 2008–09 Maltese FA Trophy was the 71st season since its establishment. It features 20 teams from Maltese Premier League and First Division. The competition started on 25 October 2008 and ended on 30 May 2009 with the Final. Birkirkara were the defending champions, but were eliminated in the semi-finals by Valletta. Maltese Second Division
The Maltese Second Division (also known as the BOV Second Division due to sponsorship reasons) was the third-highest division in Maltese football until 2020 when it was merged with the Maltese Third Division to create the National Amateur League. The FA Trophy, currently known as the Meridianbet FA Trophy for sponsorship reasons, is an annual football (soccer), football cup competition that takes place in Malta. Elvis Kamsoba (born 27 June 1996) is a Burundian professional footballer who plays as a winger for Maltese Premier League club Balzan and the Burundi national team. Early life Elvis Kamsoba was born on 27 June 1996 in Burundi.
