Akluj
Akluj is a town on the banks of Nira in Solapur district, Maharashtra, India. Akluj was earlier known for its large trade in cotton, which has almost disappeared at present. It is on the bank of River Nira. The town and surrounding area is agriculturally rich. Former deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, Vijaysinh Mohite–Patil was the sarpanch of Akluj. Historical background Akluj is one of the biggest and richest grampanchayat in India. The name Akluj is believed to be derived from 'Shri Akalai Devi' which is Gramadevata of Akluj. It was built by Yadav king Raja Singhan in the 13th century. Evidence shows that, after Yadavas it was ruled by Mughals and Britishers. Aurangjeb's Subhedar for south named Bahaddurkhan appointed Shaikh Ali as a chief official of the Akluj fort in 1673 and Ranmastkhan was appointed as a chief Thanedar in 1675. Shankarrao Mohite-Patil
Shankarrao Mohite-Patil was an Indian politician and member of the Indian National Congress, Congress party. Career He started his legislative career by representing Akluj in the erstwhile Bombay Legislative Assembly from 1952 to 1960. Later he represented the same seat of Malsiras (Vidhan Sabha constituency), Akluj (later Malshiras) in the newly created Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from 1960 to 1972. Personal life and family In the 1970s, the expensive wedding of his daughter was heavily criticized. He was father of former Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Vijaysinh Mohite–Patil and Pratapsinh Mohite-Patil as well as grandfather of Ranjitsinh Mohite-Patil who was the first president of the state unit of Nationalist Youth Congress. Vijaysinh Mohite–Patil
Vijaysinh Shankarao Mohite-Patil (born 12 June 1944) is a politician from the Nationalist Congress Party and Member of Parliament (MP) for Madha in Maharashtra since the 2014 general election till the 2019 general election. He is member of Nationalist Congress Party. Prior to that he served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He was also a Minister for Public Works Department (PWD) and Tourism and Rural Development for over 25 years. Political career Mohite-Patil started his career as Sarpanch of Akluj in Solapur district. He served as President of Solapur Zila Parishad from 1971 to 1979, and was MLA representing Malshiras from 1980 to 2009. In that time he established sugar factories, milk dairies and processing industries, poultry farms, schools, nursing, engineering and D.Ed College in Malshiras. Sangola
Sangole or (Sangola) is a city with a municipal council in Solapur district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is situated near Holy city Pandharpur . It is located at the intersection of state highways SH-161, SH-3, and SH-71. Traditionally, in many historic records this area was part of the Mandesh region. Its name is derived from the Maan River. Nira River
Nira is a river flowing through the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is a tributary of the Bhima river and flows through Pune and Solapur districts of Maharashtra. Karha is a tributary of Nira.
