2018–19 Southland Conference Men's Basketball Season
The 2018–19 Southland Conference men's basketball season, the conference's 56th, began with practices in October 2018, followed by the start of the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season on November 6, 2018. Conference play began on January 2, 2019 concluding on March 9, 2019. The Sam Houston State Bearkats won the regular season championship with a conference record of 16–2. The 2019 Southland Conference men's basketball tournament was held in Katy, Texas at the Merrell Center from March 13–17, 2019. The 2nd seeded Abilene Christian Wildcats won the conference tournament championship and received the conference automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, NCAA tournament. Two other teams also received bids to post season tournaments. Heath Schroyer
Heath Martin Schroyer (born March 15, 1972) is an American college basketball coach, currently the athletic director at McNeese State University, where he was head coach of the men's basketball team from 2018 until 2021. He has had previous head coaching stops at Portland State University (2002–05), University of Wyoming (2007–11) and University of Tennessee-Martin (2014–16). He was married twice (Karen Schroyer and Kim Ortega). Current girlfriend is Diana Vallette. Playing career Schroyer, born in Walkersville, Maryland, played high school basketball under head coach Morgan Wootten at DeMatha Catholic High School. Marlain Veal
Marlain Guy Veal (born April 21, 1996) is an American professional basketball player who last played for the South Bay Lakers of the NBA G League. He played college basketball for the Southeastern Louisiana Lions. Early life Veal was born in Gretna, Louisiana, to Patrick Roublow and Swylita Veal. He has five brothers and sisters. He is 5-9 (175 cm tall), and weighs 145 pounds (66 kg). He said: "A lot of schools said I was too small.... That's why I play with a chip on my shoulder." The 2018–19 Northwestern State Demons basketball team represented Northwestern State University during the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Demons, led by 20th-year head coach Mike McConathy, played their home games at Prather Coliseum in Natchitoches, Louisiana as members of the Southland Conference.
