2009–10 I-League
The 2009–10 I-League season began on 1 October 2009 with Mahindra United hosting defending champions Churchill Brothers in Mumbai. The season marked the addition of four new teams, with Lajong, Pune, Salgaocar and Viva Kerala were confirmed to participate in the I-League. With the inception of these four clubs, many club transfers have been undergone within India, and around the world. The length of the regular season will be longer than in previous years, with 26 rounds rather than 22. Rule changes India became the latest member association to adopt AFC's 3+1 rule which will allow clubs to recruit one player of Asian origin in addition to their regular quota of three foreigners. Dempo SC
Dempo Sports Club is an Indian professional football club based in Panaji, Goa. The club currently competes in the I-League, the second tier of the Indian football league system, and the Goa Professional League. Dempo is owned and sponsored by the Dempo Mining Corporation Limited. Known popularly as "The Whites" and "The Golden Eagles", the club has been a constant participant in the National football championships, and gained immense popularity in the first four decades of its existence. I-League
The I-League is the men's second professional football division of the Indian football league system behind the Indian Super League. Administered by the All India Football Federation, it is currently contested by 13 clubs. It operates as a system of promotion and relegation with the Indian Super League (ISL) and the I-League 2. The competition was founded in 2007 as the successor to the National Football League, with the first season starting in November 2007. The league was launched as India's first top-tier professional football league with the aim to increase the player pool for the India national team. Fatorda Stadium
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (also known as Fatorda Stadium) is a multi-purpose stadium in Margao, Goa, India. The venue has been used to host both football and cricket matches. It is Goa's only international stadium and has a seating capacity of 19,000. It has hosted 9 One Day Internationals (ODIs) in cricket and hosted various football tournaments, including multiple Indian Super League finals, I-League, I-League 2, AFC Cup, and AFC Champions League. Churchill Brothers Futebol Clube de Goa (simply known as Churchill Brothers) is an Indian professional football club based in Margao, Goa, that competes in the Indian Super League, alongside the Goa Professional League (reserves). Founded in 1988, the club usually participated in the National Football League, then top tier of the Indian football league system. The club has won the I-League title thrice and has secured a position among the top three teams on nine other occasions in the national league.
