Tsleil-Waututh First Nation
The Tsleil-Waututh Nation ( hur, səlilwətaɬ ), formerly known as the Burrard Indian Band or Burrard Inlet Indian Band, is a First Nations band government in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The Tsleil-Waututh Nation ("TWN") are Coast Salish peoples who speak hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓, the Downriver dialect of the Halkomelem language, and are closely related to but politically and culturally separate from the nearby nations of the Squamish and (Musqueam), with whose traditional territories some claims overlap. The TWN is a member government of the Naut'sa mawt Tribal Council, which includes other governments on the upper Sunshine Coast, southeastern Vancouver Island and the Tsawwassen band on the other side of the Vancouver metropolis from the Tsleil-waututh. There are almost 600 members with 287 living on the reserve as of January 2018. Burrard Generating Station
Burrard Generating Station was a natural gas-fired station built by BC Electric, owned by BC Hydro since 1961, located in Port Moody, British Columbia, Canada. Description The station originally consisted of six 160 MW units; it served to meet short term peak demands. Three units were held in standby, available on eight hours' notice. The three active units were used for voltage regulation. A plant upgrade project was completed in 2003. In 2001 it represented over 9% of BC Hydro's gross metered generation. BC Hydro shut down the station in 2016 after the completion of enough replacement capacity at the Mica Generating Station. Burrard Station
Burrard is an underground station on the Expo Line of Metro Vancouver's SkyTrain rapid transit system. The station is located in Downtown Vancouver on Burrard Street, where Melville and Dunsmuir Streets meet, and is the western terminus of the R5 Hastings St that provides service to Simon Fraser University. The station serves Vancouver's financial district and is within walking distance of the Coal Harbour and West End neighbourhoods. The station is accessible via the surface from Art Phillips Park or via the underground shopping centres of the Royal Centre and Bentall Centre skyscraper complexes. Burrard Bridge
The Burrard Street Bridge (sometimes referred to as the Burrard Bridge) is a four-lane, Art Deco style, steel truss bridge constructed in 1930–1932 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The high, five part bridge on four piers spans False Creek, connecting downtown Vancouver with Kitsilano via connections to Burrard Street on both ends. It is one of three bridges crossing False Creek. The other two bridges are the Granville Bridge, three blocks or to the southeast, and the Cambie Street Bridge, about 11 blocks or to the east. In addition to the vehicle deck, the Burrard Bridge has wide sidewalks and a dedicated cycling lane on both sides. Burrard Street
Burrard Street is a major thoroughfare in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is the central street of Downtown Vancouver and the Financial District. The street is named for Burrard Inlet, located at its northern terminus, which in turn is named for Sir Harry Burrard-Neale, 2nd Baronet, Sir Harry Burrard-Neale. The street starts at Canada Place near the Burrard Inlet, then runs southwest through downtown Vancouver. It crosses False Creek via the Burrard Bridge. South of False Creek, on what used to be called Cedar Street before the completion of the bridge in 1932, the street runs due south until the intersection with West 16th Avenue. The intersection of Burrard Street and Georgia Street is considered to be the centrepoint of Downtown Vancouver, along with the more tourist-oriented and upscale shopping-spirited intersection of Burrard Street and Robson Street to the south. Vancouver-Burrard
Vancouver-Burrard was a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, Canada. It first appeared on the hustings in the 1933 general election and included the neighbourhoods of Kitsilano and Fairview. This version of the riding was abolished in 1979, and its territory was divided between Vancouver-Point Grey, Vancouver-Little Mountain, and Vancouver Centre. In 1991, a new Vancouver-Burrard was established, containing the western half of the former Vancouver Centre. For the 2009 election, the riding was split across two new ridings. The portion west of Burrard, Georgia, and Jervis became the new Vancouver-West End riding. The remainder of Vancouver-Burrard joined part of Vancouver-Fairview to become the new Vancouver-False Creek riding. Burrard (electoral District)
Burrard was a federal electoral district in British Columbia, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1896 to 1904 and from 1917 to 1925. This riding was created in 1892 from parts of New Westminster riding. In 1903, this riding was redistributed into Vancouver City, Comox—Atlin and Yale—Cariboo, and was re-created from Vancouver City and Comox—Atlin in 1914. It was abolished in 1924 into Vancouver North and Vancouver—Burrard. Burrard Peninsula
The Burrard Peninsula ( squ, Ulksen) is a peninsula in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia, Canada, bounded by the Burrard Inlet to the north, the Georgia Strait to the west, the North Arm of Fraser River to the south, and the Pitt River and Douglas Island to the east. The City of Vancouver occupies almost all of the western half of the peninsula, and the Cities of Burnaby and New Westminster occupy more than half of the eastern half. At its northeastern end, the peninsula is connected to the Eagle Mountain and Mount Burke of the Coast Mountains via a small isthmus at the center of the Tri-Cities. The Squamish name for the Burrard Peninsula as a whole — or rather, for the long rise of land from Point Grey to Central Park, was Ulksen or Ulxen.
