Buchtel Community Learning Center
John R. Buchtel Community Learning Center, formerly known as John R. Buchtel High School and often referred to as Buchtel High School or Buchtel CLC, is a public high school in Akron, Ohio, United States, serving grades 7–12. It is one of seven high schools in the Akron Public Schools. As of 2012, the school has an enrollment of 764 students. History Buchtel High School opened in 1931 and is named after Akron industrialist and philanthropist John R. Buchtel, who helped to organize and finance a number of early Akron firms, including the Goodrich Corporation. Buchtel is best known for his role in the establishment of Buchtel College, which later became the University of Akron. Buchtel and his wife contributed more than $500,000 to the college over the course of his life. Sheldon Ocker
Sheldon Ocker (born August 1942) is an American sportswriter. Ocker attended Buchtel High School in Akron, Ohio, graduating in 1960. Richard Powers (born November 30, 1970) is a former running back in the National Football League (NFL) for the Cleveland Browns and a former University of Michigan Wolverines football co-captain. In the NFL, he had a brief career with the Browns during their final season before they relocated to become the Baltimore Ravens. Bryan Williams (born September 17, 1987) is a former American football defensive back. He played college football at the University of Akron. Early life He was born the son of Sterling Campbell. Bryan attended Buchtel High School in Akron, Ohio. His football talents were good enough to earn him a 3-Star rating, according to Rivals.com. During his time at Buchtell, he was a three-year starter and also lettered as a freshman. Howard Hewett Jr. (born October 1, 1955) is an American singer–songwriter. Hewett rose to fame as the lead vocalist of the group Shalamar. In 1985, he left the group to pursue his solo career, but he later returned to the group in 2001. He signed with Elektra Records. In 1986, he released his debut solo album '' I Commit to Love''.
