Brenda Barton
Brenda Barton is an American politician and former member of the Arizona House of Representatives representing Arizona's 6th Legislative District. She served as the Chairman of the House Agriculture, Water and Lands Committee from 2012 until giving up her position due to term limits in 2018. Early life and career A Pioneer Arizonan, her family first settled in the Territory in 1870. Barton was born near the historic family homestead in Artesia, Arizona. After over 20 years in accounting and materials management with the City of Safford, Arizona, Safford, she retired in 2009. She participated in the Sagebrush rebellion, and Barton is a former county officer with People for the West, an advocacy group promoting property rights (economics), private property rights and opposing federal intervention in western lands. Arizona 6th Legislative District
Arizona's 6th legislative district is one of 30 in the state, consisting of all of Apache County and sections of Coconino County, Gila County, Graham County, Arizona, Graham County, Mohave County, Navajo County, and Pinal County. As of 2023, there are 108 precincts in the district, with a total registered voter population of 151,306. The district has an overall population of 225,474. Following the 2020 United States redistricting cycle, the Redistricting in Arizona, Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission (AIRC) redrew legislative district boundaries in Arizona. The 6th district was drawn to guarantee ''a majority Native American constituency'', with 61% of residents being non-Hispanic Native Americans. According to the AIRC, the district is "Outside of Competitive Range" and considered leaning Democratic.
