Bonheiden () is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Antwerp. The municipality comprises the towns of Bonheiden proper and Rijmenam. In 2021, Bonheiden had a total population of 15,177. The total area is 29.27 km2 (11.30 sq mi). Staf Van Eyken
Staf Van Eyken (; born 21 April 1951) is a Belgium, Belgian serial killer who strangled three women between October 1971 and March 1972 in Mechelen and Bonheiden. Because he liked to bite his victims, he got the nickname The Vampire of Muizen. In 1974, he was sentenced to death by an Antwerp cour d'assises, which was automatically converted to life imprisonment. Biography Youth Van Eyken grew up in a poor family in Bonheiden. His father was an alcoholic who one day abandoned his wife, Marie, and two children, Staf and Jenny. He joined the List of foreign volunteers, Foreign Legion, because he had a murder on his conscience, later committing suicide in Algeria. Staf's mother remarried and had another daughter, but her new husband was also an aggressive man with a drinking problem. She later received multiple sclerosis and ended up in a wheelchair. Rijmenam
Rijmenam is a village located in the Belgian province of Antwerp and is part of the municipality of Bonheiden. History The area around Rijmenam had been settled since the Roman era. A chapel has been known to exist since the 11th chapel. Rijmenam used to belong the Duchy of Brabant. In 1578, the Battle of Rijmenam was fought between the Dutch States Army and the Spanish forces over control of Mechelen. The village was almost complete destroyed, and rebuilt twenty years later. It used to be an agricultural community, but during the 20th century, it became a residential area. Inge Vervotte (born 27 December 1977) is a Belgian politician for the Christian Democratic and Flemish party (CD&V). She was Belgian federal minister for Civil Service and Public Enterprises in the Leterme I Government, which was in office in 2008 from 20 March to 30 December. Sven Nys (; born 17 June 1976) is a former professional cyclist competing in cyclo-cross and mountain bike. With two world championships, seven world cups, and over 140 competitive victories, he is considered one of the best cyclo-cross racers of his generation, and remains a prominent figure in cyclo-cross. Apart from cyclo-cross, Nys is also fivefold national mountainbike champion, and has competed in that discipline in two Olympic games. Niels Albert (born 5 February 1986 in Bonheiden, near Antwerp, Belgium) is a former professional cyclo-cross racing cyclist who currently resides in Tremelo. He became World Champion twice, in 2009 and 2012. Career Similarly to Sven Nys, Albert began BMX racing, in which he was two times Belgian National Champion, before switching to cyclo-cross. On 8 October 2006 Albert took his first major senior victory at Grote Prijs Pro Cycling Neerpelt, Belgium. Albert won the first International cyclo-cross of the 2007/08 season with a victory in Erpe-Mere, Belgium. Lisa Vaelen (born 10 August 2004) is a Belgian artistic gymnast who represented Belgium at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Junior career 2016-2017 At the 2016 Belgian Championships, Vaelen swept the gold medals on every event and in the all-around in the Junior A-12 Division. She then made her international debut at the 2016 Gymnova Cup and won the gold medal in the all-around in the Espoir division. Koen Casteels (born 25 June 1992) is a Belgian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg and the Belgium national team. Dave McCullen (born David Vervoort; 28 December 1977 in Bonheiden, Belgium) is a Belgian record producer, DJ, and musician, who was a producer and composer for Ian van Dahl, and a founding member of the group Lasgo, along with producer Peter Luts and vocalist Evi Goffin.
