Bonao
Bonao is a city in the Cibao region of Dominican Republic. It is the capital of the Monseñor Nouel Province, Monseñor Nouel province. The city is located in the center of the country, to the northwest of the national capital Santo Domingo. The city is known as "Villa de las Hortensias" - the town of hydrangeas. The Hydrangea macrophylla, Hortensia is the local flower of Bonao. History Upon the arrival of the Spaniards, the territory belonged to the Taino chiefdom of Maguá. Monseñor Nouel () is a province in the central region of the Dominican Republic. It was split from La Vega province in 1982. Name The province is named after Monseñor Dr. Adolfo Alejandro Nouel y Bobadilla (1862-1937), an Archbishop of Santo Domingo who was briefly President of the Republic from 1912 to 1913. DR-1 is a dual carriageway highway that forms part of the five designated national highways of the Dominican Republic. DR-1 provides a fast connection between Santo Domingo, the capital, on the southern coast, and the second city Santiago and the rest of the northerly Cibao region, one of the country's main regions. DR-1's southern terminus is the ''Expreso John F Kennedy'' in the City of Santo Domingo. The highway emerges from Greater Santo Domingo as Autopista Juan Pablo Duarte, and after reaching its midpoint, Santiago, it changes name to Autopista Joaquín Balaguer. Luis Díaz Portorreal, best known as Luis Días, was a musician, composer and performer of popular music born in the Dominican Republic. He was immersed in the popular music and customs of Dominican folklore. La Voz Dominicana
La Voz Dominicana was the official radio and television station of the Dominican Republic during the regime of Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. The station was a radio broadcast only called La Voz del Yuna (1943) in Bonao until Jose Arismendy Trujillo Molina (Petan), brother of President Trujillo, acquired the station and moved it to the capital city. As the station become the official radio station, its name was changed to La Voz de los Dominicana (The Dominican Voice) on August 1, 1952. Héctor Elpidio Acosta Restituyo, better known as Héctor Acosta "El Torito" (Héctor Acosta "The Little Bull") or simply Héctor Acosta, is a Dominican performer of Merengue and Bachata music. The Cibao, usually referred as "El Cibao", is a region of the Dominican Republic located at the northern part of the country. As of 2009 the Cibao has a population of 5,622,378 making it the most populous region in the country.
