Boma National Park
Boma National Park is a protected area in eastern South Sudan near the Ethiopian border. It was established in 1977 and covers of grasslands and floodplains. Wildlife The park is an important refuge for white-eared kob, tiang, and Mongalla gazelle. Other large mammals are buffalo, elephant, African leopard, Nubian giraffe, oryx, hartebeest, Northeast African cheetah, common eland, Lelwel hartebeest, maneless zebra, waterbuck, Grant's gazelle, Lesser kudu, bongo, Giant eland, and Nile lechwe. It is also an important bird area; avifauna includes Ruppell's vulture and the black-chested snake eagle. The neighboring Gambela National Park in Ethiopia protects similar species. Maneless Zebra
The maneless zebra (''Equus quagga borensis'') is a subspecies of the plains zebra spread over the northern parts of eastern Africa. It ranges in northwestern Kenya (from Uasin Gishu and Lake Baringo) to the Karamoja district of Uganda. It is also found in eastern South Sudan, east of the White Nile (for example, in Boma National Park). It is the northernmost subspecies of the plains zebra. The last remaining substantial population is in Kidepo Valley National Park. Taxonomy The maneless zebra was first described in 1921 by the swedish zoologist Einar Lönnberg. He gave it the name Equus borensis based on a type specimen collected near the town of Bor in Southern Sudan. Later the maneless zebras have been described by several others. South Sudan (; din, Paguot Thudän), officially the Republic of South Sudan ( din, Paankɔc Cuëny Thudän), is a landlocked country in East Africa. Pibor Administrative Area
The Greater Pibor Administrative Area is an administrative area in South Sudan. History From the beginning of South Sudanese independence, the Anyuak, Jie, Kachepo, and Murle people in Jonglei sought greater autonomy from the Jonglei State government dominated by Nuer and Dinka. The resulting armed insurrections against the Government of South Sudan GoSS, initially dispersed, coalesced into the South Sudan Democratic Movement/Army (SSDM/A), which in turn was ultimately dominated by David Yau Yau and his Cobra Faction. Peace negotiations in the spring of 2014 led to a compromise that carved out two counties of Pibor and Pochalla within Jonglei state to create the new semi-autonomous Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA). Black-chested Snake Eagle
The black-chested snake eagle or black-breasted snake eagle (''Circaetus pectoralis'') is a large African bird of prey of the family Accipitridae. It resembles other snake eagles and was formerly considered conspecific with the short-toed and Beaudouin's snake eagles, to which it is closely related. Nile Lechwe
The Nile lechwe or Mrs Gray's lechwe (''Kobus megaceros'') is an endangered species of antelope found in swamps and grasslands in Sudan and Ethiopia. Description Males are an average of long and tall at the shoulders, and weigh between , while females are an average of long, tall at the shoulders, and weigh . Nile lechwes live an average of 10 to 11.5 years, and most uncommonly 19 years. Their coats are shaggy with the hair on the cheeks particularly long in both sexes, and males may have even longer hair on their necks. Nile lechwe exhibit extreme sexual dimorphism.
