''Blue Green Orange'' is the third album by the Canadian rock band I Mother Earth, released by Universal on July 13, 1999. It was the band's first album with new lead singer Brian Byrne. The album featured covers in blue, green, or orange. The album was certified gold in Canada. The album, while still in the vein of the prior jam-oriented albums, was mellower and offered several twists. These included tribal rhythms, computerized loops and instrumental elements similar to modern indie rock. An album is a collection of audio recordings issued on compact disc (CD), vinyl, audio tape, or another medium such as digital distribution. Geddy Lee
Geddy Lee (born Gary Lee Weinrib; July 29, 1953) is a Canadian musician, singer, and songwriter. He is best known as the lead vocalist, bassist, and keyboardist for the Canadian rock group Rush. Lee joined the band in September 1968, at the request of his childhood friend Alex Lifeson, replacing original bassist and frontman Jeff Jones. Lee's solo effort, ''My Favourite Headache'', was released in 2000. Christian Tanna
Christian Tanna is a Canadian drummer and music event organizer based in Peterborough, Ontario. He is best known for his work with the band I Mother Earth. Early life Tanna was born Christian Koshowski in Hamilton, Ontario. His family moved to Peterborough when he was in elementary school. Tanna began playing drums in high school. Career Tanna, along with his brother, Jagori Tanna, and vocalist Edwin, formed I Mother Earth in 1990. Tanna played on 1993's '' Dig''; in 1994 the band won a Juno Award for Best Rock Album. Tanna also drummed on the band's 1996's double platinum album ''Scenery and Fish'', 1999's ''Blue Green Orange'', and 2003's ''The Quicksilver Meat Dream''. He wrote all of I Mother Earth's lyrics. Bruce Gordon (musician)
Bruce Gordon (born 1968 in London, England) is an English-born Canadian rock musician, best known as the bassist for I Mother Earth. He was born to parents of Scottish and German heritage. He immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of six. They first moved to Edmonton, Alberta but after only a year relocated to Oakville, Ontario, a suburb of Toronto. His exposure to bands such as the Dead Kennedys, Black Flag and Bad Brains inspired him to pick up the bass guitar at the age of fifteen. He quickly took to the instrument and within a few months had joined a Toronto punk band called Intensive Chaos. Primarily self-taught, Gordon continued to play in a string of basement bands and soon graduated to the independent scene where he started playing local gigs with Jonathan Cummins (Bionic, Doughboys), and Cam and Brad Maclean in Circus Lupus. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or " guitar pop rock". Tribal Rhythms
Polyrhythm is the simultaneous use of two or more rhythms that are not readily perceived as deriving from one another, or as simple manifestations of the same meter. The rhythmic layers may be the basis of an entire piece of music (cross-rhythm), or a momentary section. Polyrhythms can be distinguished from irrational rhythms, which can occur within the context of a single part; polyrhythms require at least two rhythms to be played concurrently, one of which is typically an irrational rhythm. Concurrently in this context means within the same rhythmic cycle. The underlying pulse, whether explicit or implicit can be considered one of the concurrent rhythms. Brian Byrne
Brian Byrne (born January 13, 1975) is a Canadian singer and songwriter. He was the second vocalist for the band I Mother Earth. Biography Brian joined his first band in Corner Brook in 1988, a hair-metal band called Pandemonium. The band also featured John Kennedy, Rick Waterman, Todd Cook, and the late Kris Waterman, who selected the 13-year-old Byrne as the lead singer for the band. Byrne lived in Steady Brook and Toronto in the early 1990s, where he worked at different times as cook, dishwasher, bartender, night cleaner, office worker, ski instructor, and rock climbing instructor. He fronted bands such as Mess and Klaven (the latter with Adam Gontier of Three Days Grace) before eventually joining rock band I Mother Earth in 1997.
