Blaxlands Corner, New South Wales
Blaxlands Corner is a locality on the North Shore of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Blaxlands Corner is at the intersection of Longueville Road, Northwood Road, and River Road West, in the southern part of Lane Cove adjacent to Longueville. It contains the Longueville Sporting Club, a BP service station, a bottle shop, a travel and cruise agency. Longueville Motor Bus Company built a depot at 16 Northwood Road in 1939 that was closed by successor Deanes Coaches in the mid-1970s. It was named after Francis Blaxland who owned three acres of land in the area from the 1880s and was a grandson of Gregory Blaxland. The Geographical Names Board of New South Wales, a statutory authority of the Department of Customer Service in the Government of New South Wales, is the official body for naming and recording details of places and geographical names in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Whilst the board is an independent body, it is responsible to the general manager of land and property information, currently Des Mooney (presently chairman of the board); who reports to the director general of the Department of Finance and Services, currently Michael Coutts-Trotter. Gregory Blaxland
Gregory Blaxland (17 June 1778 – 1 January 1853) was an English pioneer farmer and explorer in Australia, noted especially for initiating and co-leading the first successful crossing of the Blue Mountains by European settlers. Early life Gregory Blaxland was born 17 June 1778 at Fordwich, Kent, England, the fourth son of John Blaxland, mayor from 1767 to 1774, whose family had owned estates nearby for generations, and Mary, daughter of Captain Parker, R.N. Gregory attended The King's School, Canterbury. In July 1799 in the church of St George the Martyr there, he married 20-year-old Elizabeth, daughter of John Spurdon; they had five sons and two daughters. The Blaxlands were friends of Sir Joseph Banks who appears to have strongly influenced the decision of Gregory and his eldest brother, John, to emigrate to Australia. Sydney Bus Museum (formerly the Sydney Bus and Truck Museum) is a not-for-profit transportation museum and education centre for public benefit located in the suburb of Leichhardt, in Sydney, Australia. The museum is open to the public on the first and third Sunday of each month. The museum restores, maintains, displays and operates over 70 buses from the 1920s to 2000's. This mainly includes both single-decker and double-decker buses from NSW government operations, but also includes Double-Decker buses from Hong Kong and London as well as single decker buses from NSW private operators. ''Truck & Bus Transportation'' was a Sydney-based monthly trade magazine covering aspects of transport in Australia. Overview ''Truck & Bus Transportation'' was established in July 1936 by Frank Shennen as ''Transportation''. It was renamed ''Truck & Bus Transportation'' in March 1940. It originally covered all forms of transport, but after a short while rail and tram news was withdrawn, with it focussing on the bus and truck industries. It was sold in 1986 to the Murray family. Shennen Publishing later founded ''Railway Transportation'' and ''Freight & Container Transportation'' that shared some content with ''Truck & Bus Transportation''. It ceased publication in June 2003. |

Deanes Coaches was an Australian bus company operating route bus services and charter coaches on Sydney's North Shore. History Deanes Coaches was formed in August 1955 as Turramurra-Bobbin Head Bus Service when Ron Deane purchase route 166 Turramurra station to South Turramurra from Turramurra Hire Service. On 1 July 1968, Longueville Motor Bus Company was purchased with route 127 Longueville to Chatswood station and Longueville to Wynyard. In November 1970, Barnes Coaches was purchased with routes 54 Chatswood station to Macquarie University, 124 Chatswood to Lindfield, 221 Lindfield to Bradfield Park and 224 Tambourine Bay to Wynyard via Northwood. In July 1973, route 89 Epping to Ryde was purchased from Eastwood Bus Company. In May 1977, a new depot was opened in Macquarie Park to replace the Carlingford and Turramurra facilities. Longueville Motor Bus Company was an Australian bus company operating route bus services on Sydney's Lower North Shore. History On 23 October 1922, George Newman commenced operating a service from Longueville wharf to the corner of the Pacific Highway and Epping Road at Lane Cove.
