Björk (book)
''Björk'' or ''Björk as a book'' is a 192-page coffee table book published by the Icelandic singer and composer Björk Guðmundsdóttir (2001), designed by M/M Paris. Background To coincide with the release of fifth studio album ''Vespertine'' (2001), Björk released a photo-book. The eponymous book has been created by Björk and has been edited and designed by celebrated Paris based design firm M/M (Paris) who, along with photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, have also created the artwork for ''Vespertine'' and directed the video for the first single off the album, " Hidden Place". The photograph on the rear cover of the book is an early test shot for the video. The book is non-chronological and all the images have been specifically chosen to illustrate this creative process. Björk Guðmundsdóttir ( , ; born 21 November 1965), known mononymously as Björk, is an Icelandic singer, songwriter, composer, record producer, and actress. Noted for her distinct three-octave vocal range and eccentric persona, she has developed an eclectic musical style over her four-decade career that has drawn on electronic, pop, experimental, trip hop, classical, and avant-garde music. Born and raised in Reykjavík, Björk began her music career at the age of 11 and gained international recognition as the lead singer of the alternative rock band the Sugarcubes, by the age of 21. Chris Cunningham
Chris Cunningham (born 15 October 1970) is a British video artist and music video director, best known for his music videos for electronic musicians such as Autechre, Squarepusher, and most notably Aphex Twin on videos for "Windowlicker" and " Come to Daddy", and Björk's "All is Full of Love". All were used in Chris' chapter in Director's Label. He has also created art installations and directed short movies. He was approached to direct a movie version of William Gibson's cyberpunk novel ''Neuromancer''; the project has been in development hell for more than two decades. Rankin (photographer)
John Rankin Waddell (born 1966), known as Rankin, is a British photographer and director who has photographed Kate Moss, Madonna, David Bowie and The Queen. The London Evening Standard described Rankin's fashion and portrait photography style as ''high-gloss, highly sexed'' and ''hyper-perfect''. He has directed music videos, documentaries, a feature film, short films and commercials. Early life and education Rankin was born in Glasgow. His family moved to Yorkshire in 1976 where he attended Thirsk School, before they relocated to St Albans and he studied at Beaumont School. He worked as a hospital porter when he was 20 and studied accounting at Brighton Polytechnic until he realised his interests lay elsewhere and dropped out. Bjørn Opsahl
Bjorn Opsahl (born 10 August 1968) is a Norwegian photographer, director and lecturer from Oslo. Opsahl debuted as an artist with the exhibition "Deadscapes" in 2005 at the Henie Onstad Art Centre, and followed up with "Ask the Dust" on Stenersen Museum in 2009. Opsahl was photographer and judge on ''Norway's Next Top Model'' (season 4 & 5, all episodes) Sweden's Next Top Model (season 4, episode 10). He was also the judge and photographer for all episodes of Norway's Miss Universe pageant in 2005. After moving to Los Angeles in 2008, he participated in the tattoo artist Kat Von D's television show LA Ink (Season 3, episode 13). Craig McDean (born 1964 in England) is a British fashion photographer, originally from Middlewich, now based in New York City. Life McDean originally trained and worked as a car mechanic before studying photography at Mid Cheshire College (OND) and Blackpool and The Fylde College of Further & Higher Education (PQE) where he took photography classes before he dropped out and moved to London. Graham Massey
Graham Vernon Massey (born 4 August 1960 in Manchester) is a British record producer, musician, and remixer. Early career He was a member of experimental jazz rock group Biting Tongues, once signed to Factory Records. After recording with the latter he enrolled in a sound engineer course. By 1988, he was a founding member of the British band 808 State. Originally a hip hop group called Hit Squad Manchester, they shifted to an acid house sound for recording their debut album '' Newbuild''. Music 808 State was named after Massey's favourite drum machine, the Roland TR-808. He said he thought Roland drum machines were "severely uncool" when they first appeared. Nicholas David Gordon Knight OBE (born 24 November 1958) is a British fashion photographer and founder and director of SHOWstudio.com. He is an honorary professor at University of the Arts London and was awarded an honorary Ph.D. by the same university. He has produced books of his work including retrospectives ''Nicknight'' (1994) and ''Nick Knight'' (2009).
