Bishop Of Gurk
The Bishop of Gurk is the head of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gurk, which was established in 1072 as the first suffragan bishop by Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Salzburg, Archbishop Gebhard of Salzburg in the Duchy of Carinthia. Initially performing the functions of a mere archiepiscopal vicar, the Gurk bishops did not receive a small episcopal territory until 1131. They were elevated to the rank of prince-bishops by Emperor Frederick III, Holy Roman Emperor, Frederick III in 1460, however, this title remained honorific and did not involve any Imperial immediacy, immediate statehood. In the course of the Josephinism, Josephinist reforms in 1783, the bishops' see was relocated to the Carinthian capital Klagenfurt and the diocese significantly enlarged. Raymond Peraudi (1435–1505) was a French Augustinian, papal legate, and Cardinal. He was a perpetual traveler, engaging in diplomatic negotiations at various times for the pope, the emperor and the king of France. He was an effective administrator of territories belonging to the Roman Church. Wenzeslaus of Thun ( Tetschen, 13 August 1629 - Passau, 6 January 1673) was a Czech clergyman and bishop for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Passau. Biography Wenzel the son of Johann Sigismund Graf von Thun und Hohenstein and his second wife Anna Margareta von Wolkenstein. He was the half-brother of the two Salzburg prince-archbishops Guidobald and Johann Ernst von Thun und Hohenstein. Wenzeslaus von Thun und Hohenstein was ordained a priest in 1655. Sigismund Francis, Archduke of Further Austria (27 November 1630 – 25 June 1665) was the ruler of Further Austria including Tyrol from 1662 to 1665. Biography He was born at Innsbruck, the second son of Leopold V, Archduke of Austria and Claudia de' Medici. He was appointed as bishop of Augsburg in 1646. In 1653, he became bishop of Gurk and in 1659 bishop of Trent. He was never ordained as a priest or consecrated as a bishop.
