The ''Biophysical Journal'' is a biweekly peer-reviewed scientific journal published by Cell Press on behalf of the Biophysical Society. The journal was established in 1960 and covers all aspects of biophysics. The journal occasionally publishes special issues devoted to specific topics. In addition, a supplemental "abstracts issue" is published, containing abstracts of presentations at the Biophysical Society Annual Meeting. Vasanthi Jayaraman
Vasanthi Jayaraman is a professor of molecular biology in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Texas Health Science Center. Background Jayaraman was born in India. In 1988, she received her B.S. from Meenakshi College, Madras University, in Chennai, India and her her M.S. in 1990 from Indian Institute of Technology in Chennai, India. She received her Ph.D. from Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey in 1995. For her doctoral work, Jayaraman explored the allosteric mechanism of hemoglobin under the mentorship of Thomas G. Spiro. From 1995-1997, Jayaraman worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York under George Paul Hess. For her postdoctoral work, she used caged compounds to study sub-millisecond kinetics of ligand gated ion channels. Jane Dyson
Helen Jane Dyson is a British-born biophysicist and a professor of integrative structural and computational biology at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California. She is also currently editor-in-chief of the ''Biophysical Journal''. She was elected a member of the National Academy of Sciences in 2022. Early life and career Jane Dyson was born in England, and was raised near Sydney. Dyson received her bachelor's of science in biochemistry from the University of Sydney in 1973. She received her PhD in inorganic chemistry from the same institution in 1977. Dyson did a postdoctoral fellowship at Massachusetts Institute of Technology with Paul Schimmel in 1977. From 1979 to 1984, Dyson was a UNESCO Lecturer in the School of Chemistry at the University of New South Wales. In 1984, she joined the lab of Richard Lerner at the Scripps Research Institute. A weekly newspaper is a general-news or current affairs publication that is issued once or twice a week in a wide variety broadsheet, magazine, and digital formats. Biophysics is an interdisciplinary science that applies approaches and methods traditionally used in physics to study biological phenomena. Biophysics covers all scales of biological organization, from molecular to organismic and populations. Peter Moore (chemist)
Peter B. Moore (born October 15, 1939) is Sterling Professor emeritus of Chemistry, Professor of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University. He has dedicated his entire career to understanding the structure, function, and mechanism of the ribosome. Moore was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1939 to Laura Bartlett Moore and Francis Daniels Moore. He received his B.S. degree in biophysics from Yale University in 1961, and his Ph.D. in biophysics from Harvard University in 1966, where he worked in the laboratory of James D. Watson. Prior to attending Yale, Moore graduated from Milton Academy, a prestigious college preparatory school in Milton, Massachusetts, where he was elected to the Cum Laude Society. Biophysical Society
The Biophysical Society is an international scientific society whose purpose is to lead the development and dissemination of knowledge in biophysics. Founded in 1958, the Society currently consists of over 7,500 members in academia, government, and industry. Although the Society is based in the United States, it is an international organization. Overseas members currently comprise over one third of the total. Origins The Biophysical Society was founded in response to the growth of the field of biophysics after World War Two, as well as concerns that the American Physiological Society had become too large to serve the community of biophysicists.
