Bill Henderson (Isle Of Man Legislator)
Robert "Bill" William Henderson MLC RMN (born 28 December 1961) is a Manx legislator who, after winning a 1998 by-election, represented the constituency of Douglas North in the House of Keys, the directly elected lower branch of Tynwald, the Isle of Man's parliament. In 2010, he was elected to the upper house, the Legislative Council; he was re-elected in 2015 and again in 2020. A native of the Isle of Man capital, Douglas, Henderson was educated at Ballakermeen and St Ninians High Schools, gained a Professional Diploma in Management from the Open University and followed a career in nursing before going into politics. He is also a member of the Transport & General Workers Union and the Celtic League. The Legislative Council ( gv, Yn Choonceil Slattyssagh) is the upper chamber of Tynwald, the legislature of the Isle of Man. The abbreviation "LegCo" is often used. Donald Gelling
Donald James Gelling CBE CP, CInstSMM (born 5 July 1938) is a Manx former politician, who is a former Chief Minister of the Isle of Man who served two terms as Head of the Government. Early life and career Gelling was born on Tynwald Day (5 July) 1938 in Santon, a village to the south-west of Douglas. He was apprenticed in engineering from 1954 to 1959 and after National Service in the Royal Air Force he became a salesman of agricultural machinery and vehicles. He was a general manager of his company from 1969. His political career began immediately as his National Service ended in 1961 when he was elected as a Santon Parish Commissioner; he served for 25 years and had five terms as Chairman of the Commissioners. Chief Minister Of The Isle Of Man
The Chief Minister (Manx: ''Ard-shirveishagh'') is the executive head of the Isle of Man Government. The office derives from that of Chairman of the Executive Council. Before 1980 the Executive Council was chaired by the Lieutenant Governor, but thereafter the chairman was elected by Tynwald, the parliament of the Isle of Man. The title was changed to "Chief Minister" in 1986. The Chief Minister is appointed by the Lieutenant Governor on the nomination of the House of Keys (formerly the nomination of Tynwald) after a general election for the House of Keys.
