Bert Bos
Gijsbert (Bert) Bos (born 1963Gijsbert BosRapid user interface development with the script language Gist, Dissertation, Groningen University, 1993) is a computer scientist known for the development of Argo, a web browser he developed as test application for his style sheet proposal. Life and work Born in The Hague, Bos studied mathematics at the University of Groningen, and wrote his PhD thesis on ''Rapid user interface development with the script language Gist''. In 1996, he joined the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to work on Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). He is a former chairman and the current W3C Staff Contact of the CSS Working Group. He is based in Sophia Antipolis, France. CSS Working Group
The CSS Working Group (Cascading Style Sheets Working Group) is a working group created by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) in 1997, to tackle issues that had not been addressed with CSS level 1. As of December 2022, the CSSWG had 147 members. The working group is co-chaired by Rossen Atanassov and Alan Stearns. Håkon Wium Lie (born July 26, 1965) is a Norwegian web pioneer, a standards activist, and the Chief Technology Officer of Opera Software from 1998 until the browser was sold to new owners in 2016. He is best known for developing Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) while working with Tim Berners-Lee and Robert Cailliau at CERN in 1994. Education and career Håkon Wium Lie attended Østfold University College, West Georgia College, and MIT Media Lab, receiving an MS in Visual Studies in 1991. On February 17, 2006, he successfully defended his PhD thesis at the University of Oslo. His PhD thesis is background to the origins of CSS and a rationale to some of the design decisions behind it – particularly as to why some features were ''not'' included and why CSS avoids trying to become DSSSL.
