Bergholz, Ohio
Bergholz () is a village in northwestern Jefferson County, Ohio, United States. The population was 544 at the 2020 census. The village's name is German and translates to "mountain timber". It is part of the Weirton–Steubenville metropolitan area. History Initially, the Bergholz area was a settlement called Nebo. Modern Bergholz had its start in 1883 when the railroad was built through that territory in order to access a mine. The settlement was named Bergholz in honor of one of the mine owners. It was incorporated as a village in 1906. During Morgan's Raid, a Union victory in the Civil War in 1863, Confederate Brigadier General John Hunt Morgan traveled through the Bergholz area on his way to defeat at the Battle of Salineville. The Bergholz Community, also called Bergholz Clan or Bergholz Amish, is a religious group of former Amish under the leadership of Sam Mullet, formed in 1995 and located at Bergholz, Ohio, that became known for a series of "beard cutting" attacks on members of an Amish community in 2011. History In 1995 a new Amish settlement was founded in Bergholz, Ohio, on the initiative of Sam Mullet, who wanted to create a settlement more conservative than the very conservative Amish settlement he was residing at the time. In 1997, Mullet was ordained minister for the new settlement and in 2001, he was ordained bishop in an unusual form. Amish tradition requires that at least three bishops take part in the ordination ceremony of a new bishop, but in Mullet's case, there was only one other bishop present. Wheatfield is a town in Niagara County, New York, United States. The population was 18,117 at the 2010 census. The name stems from the agricultural use of the town lands, the growing of wheat. Nuthetal is a municipality in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district, in Brandenburg, Germany. Geography ''Nuthetal'' is situated south-west of Berlin. The area was formed from a series of large moraines during the last ice age. The municipality originated in October 2003 from the voluntary union of the independent municipalities Bergholz-Rehbrücke, Fahlhorst, Nudow, Philippsthal, Saarmund and Tremsdorf.
