Bcheale
Bchaaleh (alternatively spelled Bcheale, Bchealeh or Bshaaleh) is a village in the Batroun District of the North Governorate in Lebanon. It had 1,456 eligible voters in the 2009 elections, and the residents mainly belonged to the Maronite Church. Geography The village of Bchaaleh stands on a promontory, with views of the sea and across Douma. It is home to traditional houses and to Saint Stephan church, one of the largest in the region of Batroun. To the north-east of the village, a citadel is built on the ruins of a medieval fortress, erected itself on Phoenicians ruins destroyed by the Romans. Twelve olive trees still live in the village of Bchaaleh, at more than 1200m above sea level. It is said that they are the oldest olive trees in the world. Sisters Olive Trees Of Noah
The Sisters (also known as the Sisters Olive Trees of Noah) are a grove of sixteen olive trees in the Lebanese town of Bcheale. According to local folklore, the trees are at least 5,000 years old, perhaps even 6,000 years old or older. If this is correct, they may be the oldest non-clonal living trees in the world. The age of any of The Sisters has not been determined by dendrochronology (tree-ring dating) and possibly cannot be due to deterioration of the inner tree ring structures over time. Folk legend also ascribes The Sisters as the source of the olive branch returned to Noah's Ark at the waning of the Biblical Flood. The trees still produce olives, and a preservation effort was undertaken by the non-profit organization Sisters Olive Oil, which marketed oil from these olives. Association For The Protection Of Lebanese Heritage
The Association for the Protection of the Lebanese Heritage or APLH is a cultural heritage, non-governmental organization based in Zouk Mosbeh, Keserwan District of Mount Lebanon, Lebanon. The association was originally formed in March 2010 by a group of activists on Facebook, officially registered with the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities on 13 July 2010. The permit number of the association is 1764. The association aims to preserve and promote historical, cultural and urban heritage within Lebanon (including public spaces), which has come under increased threat of destruction through rampant urbanization, as all are viewed as thoroughly connected to protect Lebanese society by preserving its history and identity. 2021 Lebanese Blackout
The 2021 Lebanese blackout was a power outage in Lebanon that started on 9 October 2021, after two of the country’s power plants shut down when they ran out of diesel fuel. The two power stations provided 40% of Lebanon's electricity. Due to this, the power grid was shut down nationwide. The outage ended on 10 October, 24 hours after the start. Background Because of the ongoing Lebanese liquidity crisis, the Lebanese pound lost over 90% of its value, leaving the government unable to pay for fuel imports, resulting in a general shortage of fuel in Lebanon, including for its power plants. The fuel shortage also meant that people and businesses could not run their private fuel-powered electricity generators. Governorates Of Lebanon
Lebanon is divided into nine governorates ('' muhafazah''). Each governorate is headed by a governor (''muhafiz''): All of the governorates except for Beirut and Akkar are divided into districts, which are further subdivided into municipalities.
