Battle is a small town and civil parishes in England, civil parish in the local government district of Rother District, Rother in East Sussex, England. It lies south-east of London, east of Brighton and east of Lewes. Hastings is to the south-east and Bexhill-on-Sea to the south. Battle is in the designated High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is a tourist destination and commuter town for white collar workers in the City of London. The parish population was 6,048 according to the United Kingdom Census 2001, 2001 census, increasing to 6,673 with the 2011 Census. Battle is the site of the Battle of Hastings, where William, Duke of Normandy, defeated King Harold II of England, Harold II to become William I of England, William I in 1066.
