Barry Anthony Smith (born 3 March 1953) is an English former footballer who played as a goalkeeper in the Football League for Colchester United. He was also briefly on the books at Walsall and Sunderland but failed to make an appearance for either team. Career Born in Colchester, Smith came through the youth ranks at hometown club Colchester United, signing a professional contract in July 1971. He made his debut aged 18 on 28 August 1971 in a 3–0 defeat at Bury in the Fourth Division but it wasn't until usual keeper Graham Smith was sold to West Bromwich Albion in October of the same year that Smith became a regular fixture in the U's starting line-up. He played in all the remaining games of the 1971–72 season and featured regularly at the beginning of the 1972–73 season. Barry Smith (born 19 February 1974) is a Scottish football coach and former player who serves as an assistant coach with Canadian Premier League club York United. As a player, Smith played in the right back, centre back, and defensive midfielder roles for Celtic, Dundee, Valur, Partick Thistle, Greenock Morton and Brechin City. Smith was admitted into Dundee's Hall of Fame having made 400 appearances for the club. Smith played on loan for Brechin City while managing the Dundee under-19 side. He became Dundee first team manager in October 2010, when the club had entered financial administration. During this period, Smith led the team to a club record 23-game unbeaten streak in the league. Barry Edward Smith (April 25, 1955 – September 7, 2013) was a Canadian former NHL player for the Boston Bruins and the Colorado Rockies. Career Smith was drafted 32nd overall by the Boston Bruins in the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft. He played a total of 114 regular season games, scoring seven goals and seven assists for 14 points. He was also drafted 36th overall by Edmonton Oilers in the 1975 WHA Amateur Draft but never played in that league. After retiring from playing he became a coach in the ECHL for the Knoxville Cherokees, for five seasons between 1992 and 1997. He was replaced midseason in his fifth season by Jack Capuano. Barry Smith (born August 21, 1952) is an American ice hockey coach. Career Smith began his coaching career in 1975 with Elmira College. In 1986, he began a long career as an assistant and associate coach in the National Hockey League, working with the Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, and Phoenix Coyotes, winning five Stanley Cups along the way. Smith also coached five games for the Red Wings in 1998 after head coach Scotty Bowman was unable to start the season behind the bench due to knee surgery. In 2008, he became head coach of SKA St. Petersburg of the Kontinental Hockey League. After being a pro scout for the Chicago Blackhawks, he was the head coach of HC Lugano in Switzerland's NLA. Barry Smith (born 16 April 1953 in London) is a British former long-distance runner. He competed in the 1980 Summer Olympics. He was a frequent part of the English team at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships. After a junior team medal at the 1972 International Cross Country Championships and 1973 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, he broke through as a senior in 1977 by sharing in the team silver medals. Barry Smith (born 8 March 1940) is an Australian former professional Grand Prix motorcycle road racer. __TOC__ Motorcycle racing career Smith was born in Macclesfield, England where he bought his first motorcycle, a 250cc BSA. By 1959, his family had emigrated to Australia and Smith began motorcycle racing against Australian riders such as Kel Carruthers and Tom Phillis. The need for more competition led Smith back to Europe where he competed in the Grand Prix world championships from 1963 to 1981. His best seasons were in 1968 and 1969 when he finished third in the 50cc world championship. Smith is the author of more than 700 scientific publications, including 15 authored or edited books, and he is one of the most widely cited contemporary philosophers. Early life, education, and career Born in Port Elizabeth in South Africa, Smith was a chorister at St Mary's Collegiate Church, Port Elizabeth. Educated at the Grey School in Port Elizabeth (1946–1955), in 1956 Smith was awarded a scholarship to Rhodes University, where he completed his PhD degree. In 1960, Smith went to the United Kingdom on scholarship to the Royal School of Church Music.
