Bakke'', 438 U.S. 265 (1978) involved a dispute of whether preferential treatment for minorities can reduce educational opportunities for whites without violating the Constitution. The case was a landmark decision by the Supreme Court of the United States. It upheld affirmative action, allowing race to be one of several factors in college admission policy. Trine Bakke (born 11 January 1975 in Trondheim) is a retired Norwegian alpine skier. By the end of her career, she had won two World cup competitions in slalom ( St. Anton 1999 and Maribor, 2000). Svein Erik Bakke (11 June 1947 – 21 November 2006) was a Norwegian entrepreneur. Bakke was born at Sørum in Romerike, Norway. He began building his fortune by cleaning as a seventeen-year-old. Earning the nickname ''Vaske-Bakke'' (Washing-Bakke), he went on to found the cleaning and laundry company ''Viking-gruppen'' (The Viking Group), which reached a total of 750 employees. After suffering a nervous breakdown, leading to a suicide attempt on 23 December 2001, Bakke sold his company. Later he put his fortune into property development in Trysil as a winter sports venue. Svein Bakke (23 June 1953 – 16 December 2015) was a Norwegian footballer who played for Sogndal Fotball from 1971 to 1990. Bakke was central player when Sogndal faced SK Brann in the 1976 Norwegian Football Cup. Bakke played 514 matches over his nineteen-year career and scored 321 goals (in all competitions, including friendlies). Ole Bakke
Ole Bakke (1889–1925) was a Norwegian-American architect practicing in Missoula, a city in western Montana. Bakke, a native of Norway, arrived in Missoula in 1900. As a teenager, he worked as a draftsman for A. J. Gibson, the region's leading architect. Upon Gibson's retirement in 1913, Bakke succeeded to the business. However, Gibson continued to practice in a consulting position, and is thus credited with the design of the First Presbyterian Church, of which he was an active member. Bakke practiced until his departure for Norway circa 1922. His office, in turn, was succeeded by H. E. Kirkemo, who had joined Bakke as a draftsman in 1920.
