Brasenose College Boat Club
Brasenose College Boat Club (BNCBC) is the rowing club of Brasenose College, Oxford, in Oxford, England. It is one of the oldest boat clubs in the world, having beaten Jesus College Boat Club in the first modern rowing race, held at Oxford in 1815. Although rowing at schools such as Eton and Westminster School Boat Club predates this, the 1815 contest is the first recorded race between rowing clubs anywhere in the world. In addition to the 1815 "headship", the club has won both the Summer Eights and Torpids headship many times, and has recorded numerous victories in most events at the Henley Royal Regatta. The club's colours are black and gold, with black blades. The 1st VIII, however, may wear the distinctive "Childe of Hale" colours — red, purple and gold — which are traditional in Brasenose rowing. Balliol College Boat Club
Balliol College Boat Club (BCBC) is the rowing club for members of Balliol College, Oxford, England. It is one of the college boat clubs at the University of Oxford. Balliol College Boat Club competes in rowing regattas organised by Oxford University Rowing Clubs, including Torpids and Summer Eights, as well as external regattas such as Marlow Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta. History The Balliol College Archives have much material concerning the Boat Club from about 1840 onwards. The College Buttery has an extensive collection of sports photographs and trophies including many to do with the Boat Club. Although it is questioned whether an official boat club existed until the 1850s. The base of the Boat Club for the latter part of the 19th century and much of the 20th century was a grand barge, which was moored on the River Thames at the south side of Christ Church Meadow. Josephine Butler College Boat Club
Josephine Butler College is a college at Durham University. It is located at the Howlands Farm site next to residences of Stephenson College. In the centre of the college is a grass-covered hill, called "The Mound." It is a fully self-catered college of the university with facilities far more modern than many of the existing undergraduate colleges in Durham (the newest of which was opened in 1972, with South College opening in 2020) and all rooms are en-suite. The college bar is the largest of all the college bars in Durham. The college has extensive leisure facilities including a library, study spaces, sports hall, outdoor tennis court and music room. On 14 December 2005, it was announced that the college had been named after Josephine Butler, a Victorian feminist campaigner and a grand-niece of the 2nd Earl Grey, after whom Grey College was named.
