Bülent Keneş
Bülent Keneş is a Turkish journalist, currently living in exile in Sweden and working with the Stockholm Center for Freedom. He previously served as editor-in-chief of ''Today's Zaman''. Biography Keneş earned a bachelor's degree in international relations from Boğaziçi University and a PhD from Marmara University. From 2005 to 2006, he served as editor-in-chief of ''Bugün''. In 2007, he joined ''Today's Zaman'' as the newly-founded English-language newspaper's first editor-in-chief. In July 2014, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan filed a legal complaint against Keneş with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, alleging that Keneş had targeted him with a smear campaign. On 9 October 2015, Keneş was arrested by Turkish police on charges of insulting Erdoğan, now President of Turkey, on Twitter. Stockholm Center For Freedom
The Stockholm Center for Freedom (The SCF) is an advocacy organization founded in 2017 by the Turkish journalist Abdullah Bozkurt. The SCF has been headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden due to the Turkish government crackdown on freedom of the press. The group is mainly focused on issues related to human rights and press freedom in Turkey. The Stockholm Center for Freedom has allegedly been linked to the pro-Islamism Gülen movement, which has been labeled a terrorist organisation by the Government of Turkey. Censorship In Turkey
Censorship in Turkey is regulated by domestic and international legislation, the latter (in theory) taking precedence over domestic law, according to Article 90 of the Constitution of Turkey (so amended in 2004). Despite legal provisions, freedom of the press in Turkey has steadily deteriorated from 2010 onwards, with a precipitous decline following the attempted coup in July 2016. The Turkish government of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has arrested hundreds of journalists, closed or taken over dozens of media outlets, and prevented journalists and their families from traveling. Transnational repression is a type of political repression conducted by a state outside its borders.
