Bãi Sậy Uprising
The Bãi Sậy revolt (1885-1889, Khởi nghĩa Bãi Sậy) was an anti-French revolt led by Nguyen Thien Thuat, Nguyễn Thiện Thuật (alias Tán Thuật). It takes its name from the swampy Bãi Sậy "Field of Reeds" area in Văn Giang and Khoái Châu districts, Hưng Yên province.A brief chronology of Vietnam's history Anh Thư Hà, Hò̂ng Đức Trà̂n - 2000 "Bãi Sậy (Field of Reeds) Revolt (1885-1889) Nguyễn Thiện Thuật (alias Tán Thuật) built up an anti-French fighting base in the Bãi Sậy area (Văn Giang and Khoái Châu districts, Hưng Yên province). The revolt lasted several years, until 1889.
