Club Bàsquet Girona 2014, SAD, commonly known as Bàsquet Girona (), is a professional basketball club based in Girona, Spain. It was founded in 2014 by former NBA player Marc Gasol. The team plays in the Liga ACB. Its home arena is Fontajau. History The club was founded in 2014 by NBA player Marc Gasol, who previously played in CB Girona between 2006 and 2008, with the name of Club Escola Bàsquet Marc Gasol. In its first years, the club only competed in youth categories. In 2016, it added the name of the city of Girona to the name of the club thus becoming CEB Girona Marc Gasol and one year later, it changed again its name to simply Bàsquet Girona. Also in 2017, and with the aim to become the main men's basketball club in the city, the club created the senior squad that would start competing in the fourth-tier Liga EBA after achieving a vacant spot in the league. The Liga ACB, known as Liga Endesa for sponsorship reasons, is the top professional basketball division of the Spanish basketball league system. Administered by the Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto (ACB), Liga ACB is contested by 18 teams, with the two lowest-placed teams Promotion and relegation, relegated to the Primera FEB and replaced by the top team in that division plus the winner of the promotion playoffs. Darryl Bryan Middleton (born July 21, 1966) is an American former professional basketball player and current assistant coach for Girona of the Liga ACB. Standing at , he played at the power forward position. He holds the record for being the oldest player to ever play a game in the history of the Spanish ACB League. He also holds a Spanish passport. College career Middleton played college basketball with the Baylor Bears. The 2021–22 LEB Oro season was the 26th season of the Spanish basketball second league. It started on 8 October 2021 with the first round of the regular season and ended on 19 June 2022 with the Final Four. Format changes For this season, the league was back to 18 teams and brought back the single group with a single group phase in which the top team of the regular season promoted directly to Liga ACB. At the same time, the teams placed between 2nd and 9th qualified for the playoffs to decide the second promotion to Liga ACB and the last three teams were relegated to LEB Plata. The Primera FEB, formerly known as LEB or LEB Oro, is the second basketball division of the Spanish basketball league system after the Liga ACB. It is run by the Spanish Basketball Federation, FEB. The FEB leagues are divided into three categories (the other two are the Segunda FEB and the Tercera FEB). The league was founded in 1996 and is played under FIBA rules. The league is contested by 18 clubs. Each season, the top-finishing team in the Primera FEB are automatically promoted to the Liga ACB. The teams that finish the season in 2nd to 9th place enter a playoff tournament, with the winner also gaining promotion to the Liga ACB. The 2020–21 LEB Oro season was the 25th season of the Spanish basketball second league. It started on 16 October 2020 with the first round of the regular season and ended on 20 June 2021 with the final. It was the following season after the 2019–20 season was curtailed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
