Buzos Tácticos
The Tactical Divers Group (, APBT) is the premier special operations force of the Argentine Navy. The Buzos Tácticos are based at Base Naval Mar del Plata (BNMP) on the Atlantic coast of Argentina. Its men are highly qualified combat divers, EOD/demolition technicians, and paratroopers. History The APBT was the first special forces division created in South America. The unit was established in 1952 on board LST ARA ''Cabo San Bartolomé'' with instructors who were former X-MAS Italian diver commandos. In those times a reduced Tactical Divers Group was operating in the ''Cabo'' ''San Bartolomé''; years later the Navy created a second group assigned to the Escuadra Naval del Plata. The Amphibious Commandos Group (, APCA) is a special operations force of the Argentine Marine Corps. Role Trained to perform quick and objective amphibious reconnaissance, assault raids, and direct action operations. History It was created in 1952 as the Vigilance and Security Company of Submarine Bases (at Base Naval Mar del Plata). In 1960 the group received its first advanced training course of amphibious reconnaissance, airborne, and HALO/HAHO parachuting in the Military Diving School and in the Argentine Army. With the personnel of the 7th Marine Corps Company, formed in 1966 the Amphibious Reconnaissance Company, it took new tasks and responsibilities. Government House, Falkland Islands
Government House in Stanley has been the home of the Falkland Islands' governors since the mid-19th century. History The official residence was built in 1845. The 1911 ''Encyclopædia Britannica'' says in the ''Falkland Islands'' article that "Government House, grey, stone-built and slated, calls to mind a manse in Shetland or Orkney." There is a conservatory on the northern side of the building, which Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, visited during his tour of the Falklands in 1991. One of the world's southernmost grapevines grows there, of the Black Hamburg variety. Ernest Shackleton stayed here during his famous expedition. Allegedly, he described his time there as being "far colder than any time on the ice". It is a listed building. Moody Brook
Moody Brook is a small watercourse that flows into Stanley Harbour on East Falkland, Falkland Islands. It is near Stanley, just to the northwest, and was formerly the location of the town barracks, which were attacked in Operation Rosario, the 1982 Argentine Invasion of the Falkland Islands. ''Cabo San Antonio'' was based on the US Navy's ''De Soto County''-class tank landing ship design. History The high point of her career was the Argentine invasion of the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) in 1982, as part of Operation Azul. ARA Santa Fe (S-21)
ARA ''Santa Fe'' was an Argentine that was lost during the Falklands War. Built by the US during the Second World War, the ship operated in the United States Navy as USS ''Catfish'' (SS-339) until 1971 when she was transferred to the Argentine Navy. She served until 1982 when she was captured by the British at South Georgia after being seriously damaged and subsequently sank along a pier, with just her conning tower (sail) visible above the waterline. The submarine was raised, towed out of the bay and scuttled in deep water in 1985. Port Stanley
Stanley (also known as Port Stanley) is the capital city of the Falkland Islands. It is located on the island of East Falkland, on a north-facing slope in one of the wettest parts of the islands.
