Butterworth–Kulim Expressway
Butterworth–Kulim Expressway, BKE, ( Malay: ''Lebuhraya Butterworth–Kulim''), is the only opened toll system's expressway in Penang, Malaysia. The expressway connects Butterworth, Penang in the west to Lunas, Kedah in the east. It is also a main route to East–West Highway (Federal Route 4) via Baling, Kedah and Gerik, Perak. Route background The Butterworth–Kulim Expressway E15 is an east–west oriented expressway and concurrents with the Federal Route 4 and Asian Highway Route AH140 along its entire length. The ''actual'' starting point of the expressway is counted as Kilometre 5. Many maps have mistakenly labelled the section between Exit 1501 Kubang Sebang Interchange and Butterworth as a part of the E15 expressway; however, it is incorrect as the remaining 5-km section is not maintained by PLUS Malaysia Berhad but rather by Lingkaran Luar Butterworth (Penang) Sdn. Touch 'n Go
The Touch 'n Go smart card is used by Malaysian Malaysian Expressway System, toll expressway and highway operators as the sole electronic money, electronic payment system (EPS). The credit card-sized smart card is made of plastic with Philips' MIFARE, MIFARE Classic microchip technology embedded in it. It is a one company monopoly system that you must use this card as long as you need to pass through the highway, take public transportation, etc in Malaysia. The card has an expiry date and inactive period. Check carefully as the Inactive card of not using for more than 12 months, cannot be reactivated. Federal Route 4 is a federal road in the north of Peninsula Malaysia. The road connects Butterworth, Penang to Pasir Puteh in Kelantan. The highway also goes close to the border with Thailand and meets Jalan Kompleks CIQ Bukit Bunga at Bukit Bunga. Route background The Kilometre Zero is located at Gerik, Perak. At the first kilometre at Gerik, it is connected with the Federal Route 76. At the East–West Highway sections, the highway passing Kuala Rui, Lake Temenggor Bridge (West and East side), Banding Island, Belum Forest Reserve, Air Banun, Lake Pergau and finally at Jeli, Kelantan. The Federal Route 4 then continues from Jeli towards Tanah Merah, Machang and finally at Pasir Puteh, where it meets with the Federal Route 3.
