Bundaberg () is the major regional city in the Wide Bay-Burnett region of the state of Queensland, Australia. It is the ninth largest city in the state. The Bundaberg central business district is situated along the southern bank of the Burnett River about from its mouth at Burnett Heads, where it flows into the Coral Sea. The city is sited on a rich coastal plain, supporting one of the nation's most productive agricultural regions. The area of Bundaberg is the home of the Taribelang-Bunda, Goreng Goreng, Gurang, and Bailai peoples. John Thompson Charlton, also known as John Charlton Thompson (1826 – 26 November 1878) was a politician in colonial Victoria (Australia), a member of the Victorian Legislative Council. Early life Charlton was born in Hull, Yorkshire, England, the son of Thomas Charlton and his wife Rebecca, ''née'' Thompson and was baptised on 21 June 1826. Charlton married Hannah Elizabeth Breeze on 30 September 1850 at St Mary-at-Lambeth, Surrey, and the couple emigrated to Australia. Career in Australia Charlton was elected member of the Victorian Legislative Council for Ripon, Hampden, Grenville and Polwarth in December 1853, a position he held until he resigned in September 1854. The Goreng Goreng, also known Kooreng Gooreng, are an inland freshwater Australian Aboriginal people of Queensland, and also a language group. The Goreng Goreng area is between Central West Queensland in the north around Boyne Valley, extending westerly as far as the Great Dividing Range along the Dawes, Auburn, Nogo and Callide Ranges to meet the Wulli Wulli and Ghunghulu to their immediate west over the Great Dividing Range.
