Bucharest Metro Line M6
M6 is an under construction metro line of the Bucharest Metro. The M6 Line will connect Bucharest North railway station () to Henri Coandă International Airport (). The line is expected to be completed by 2028. As of 2019, only the section from 1 Mai metro station, 1 Mai station to Tokyo station had secured funding. On March 8, 2022, the contract for construction was signed; the contract for the second section — from Tokyo station to the airport — was signed on May 2, 2023. Construction work has effectively started on December 15, 2023, for the first section between the 1 Mai station of M4 and the future Tokyo station. Bucharest Metro
The Bucharest Metro () is an underground rapid transit system that serves Bucharest, the capital of Romania. It first opened for service on 16 November 1979. The network is run by Metrorex. One of two parts of the larger Transport in Bucharest, Bucharest public transport network, Metrorex had an annual ridership of 142,783,000 passengers during 2023, compared to over a billion annual passengers on Bucharest's Regia Autonomă de Transport București, STB transit system. Bucharest North Railway Station
Bucharest North railway station (; officially Bucharest North Group A; colloquially ''Gara de Nord'') is the main railway station in Bucharest and the largest railway station in Romania. The vast majority of mainline trains to and from Bucharest originate from Gara de Nord. History The original North railway station was built between 1868—1872. The foundation stone was placed on 10 September 1868 in the presence of King Carol I of Romania. The building was designed as a U-shaped structure. 1 Mai(''1st of May'' in Romanian) is a metro station in northern Bucharest, serving line M4. It is situated in Chibrit or Clăbucet Square, at the intersection of Calea Griviței, Ion Mihalache Boulevard, and Bucureștii Noi Road.It will be serving the M6 line to the airport at Otopeni. History The works on line 4, which 1 Mai station is part of, started in December 1989 but were stopped because of budgetary deficiencies in 1994. In the following period the only operations that took place were of evacuating water accumulated from seepage from the unfinished walls, which were subsequently stopped in order to prevent the deformation of the tunnels. In 1997 a loan was obtained from the European Investment Bank for co-financing the "Modernizarea metroului din București – etapa I" project which restarted the works. Bucharest Metro Line M4
M4 is one of the five lines of the Bucharest Metro. It is currently long and runs from Bucharest North railway station, Gara de Nord to Străulești metro station, Străulești, following the Griviței and Bucureștii Noi avenues. History Construction of the line started in September 1989, shortly before the Romanian Revolution. The tunnels were built up to where Parc Bazilescu is today. Construction was abandoned afterwards and was resumed later on in the 90's. The first section of the M4 opened on 1 March 2000 from Gara de Nord metro station, Gara de Nord to 1 Mai metro station, 1 Mai. After many years of delays the next section to Parc Bazilescu metro station, Parc Bazilescu was finally opened on 1 July 2011.
