Brønnøy is a List of municipalities of Norway, municipality in Nordland Counties of Norway, county, Norway. It is part of the Helgeland Districts of Norway, region. The administrative centre and commercial centre of the municipality is the town of Brønnøysund. A secondary centre is the village of Hommelstø. Other villages include Tosbotnet, Lande, Norway, Lande, Trælnes, and Skomo. The municipality is the 107th largest by area out of the 357 municipalities in Norway. Brønnøy is the 135th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 7,826. Brønnøya
Brønnøya is an island in the western section of Oslofjord (Vestfjorden), within the borders of the municipality of Asker. Geography The island is just beyond the upscale suburban construction of Nesøya, Akershus, Nesøya, reachable across the Vendelsund sound by cable ferry during the summer and a pontoon bridge in winter. It is among the largest islands in the Vestfjorden archipelago and is surrounded by islands: To the east is Ostøya in Bærum, to the south is Langåra (Asker) and to the west the small islands with descriptive names such as Katterompa (Cat's Rear End), Torbjørnsøy, Furuholmen (Pine Island), and Spannslokket (Pail Lid). Brønnøy Church
Brønnøy Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Brønnøy Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located in the town of Brønnøysund. It is the main church for the Brønnøy parish which is part of the Sør-Helgeland prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The brown, cruciform, stone church was built in a Neo-Gothic style in 1870 by the architect Haakon Mosling. The church seats about 450 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1386, but the church was likely built around the year 1200 (end of the 12th century or early 13th century). There have been two church fires after lightning strikes on this site, the first in 1772 and the second in 1866. The original church had a rectangular nave with a narrower, almost square choir with a lower roof line. After the fire in 1772 the walls were repaired and an extension built to the north.
