Brunswick is a ghost town in Warren County, Mississippi. Brunswick Landing, north of the community, was located directly on the Mississippi River. Brunswick originated as a postal village. A steamship delivering mail in 1853 left Memphis, Tennessee, each evening at 8 pm, and traveled south stopping at Grayson, AR, Blues' Point, AR, Commerce, MS, Bledsoe's Landing, AR, Austin, MS, Wayne, AR, Sterling, AR, Helena, AR, Delta, MS, Friars Point, MS, Barneys, AR, Island No. 66, Laconia, AR, Victoria, MS — and arrived at Napoleon, AR at 7 pm the next evening. The Buena Vista Plantation was located between Brunswick and Eagle Lake to the south. In 1860, the plantation's owner had a levee built using Irish laborers, his own slaves too busy planting cotton. Austin is a census-designated place and unincorporated area, unincorporated community in Tunica County, Mississippi, Tunica County, Mississippi, United States. Per the 2020 United States census, 2020 Census, the population was 51. Once a thriving shipping port on the Mississippi River, Austin served as county seat from 1847 to 1888. Earlier county seats were Commerce, Mississippi, Commerce and Peyton, Mississippi, Peyton. History Austin was founded in 1847 and named for Austin Miller, who donated the land on which the town and a courthouse were built. Napoleon, Arkansas
Napoleon was a river port and the county seat of Desha County, Arkansas, from 1838 to 1874. It was located at the confluence of the Arkansas and the Mississippi rivers. The town was badly damaged during the American Civil War and then finally abandoned after most of it had washed into the Mississippi. Victoria is a ghost town in Bolivar County, Mississippi, United States. Victoria was a historic port on the Mississippi River, located south of Lake Concordia, approximately west of Gunnison. Friars Point is a town in Coahoma County, Mississippi, United States. Per the 2020 census, the population was 896. Situated on the Mississippi River, Friars Point was once a busy port town, and remains the only place in Coahoma County with public access to the river's shore. History Friars Point is one of two hypothesized locations where Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto may have crossed the Mississippi River (the other is Commerce, Mississippi). The town was founded in 1836 and originally called "Farrar's Point". Commerce is a ghost town in Tunica County, Mississippi, United States. Commerce Landing was the town's port. Commerce is located on the Mississippi River, west of Tunica Resorts. Once a thriving river port, Commerce today is farmland surrounded by large casinos. Little remains of the original community.
