Bruce Wayne, also known by his superhero vigilante alias Batman, is a fictional Character (arts), character in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), based on the DC Comics Batman, character of the same name. The character was portrayed by Ben Affleck in Zack Snyder's 2016 superhero film ''Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'', the 2017 film ''Justice League (film), Justice League'' (as well as its Zack Snyder's Justice League, 2021 director's cut), ''Suicide Squad (2016 film), Suicide Squad'' (2016), and ''The Flash (film), The Flash'' (2023). Fans nicknamed this iteration of the character "Batfleck", a portmanteau of "Batman" and "Affleck". The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) is an American media franchise and shared universe centered on a series of superhero films distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It is based on characters that appear in American comic books published by DC Comics. The DCEU also includes comic books, short films, novels, and video games. Like the original DC Universe in comic books, the DCEU is established by Crossover (fiction), crossing over common plot elements, settings, cast, and characters. Warner Bros. began trying to bring various DC Comics superheroes together in films in 2002, when Wolfgang Petersen was to direct a crossover of the ''Superman in film, Superman'' and ''Batman in film, Batman'' film franchises. Jason Peter Todd is a character appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. First appearing in ''Batman (comic book), Batman'' #357 in March 1983, he was created to succeed Dick Grayson as Robin (character), Robin, Batman's partner and sidekick. He initially shared a similar origin to Grayson, being the son of circus acrobats who are killed by criminals in Gotham (Dick's were killed by a local mob boss who sabotaged their trapeze while Jason's parents were killed by Killer Croc) and adopted by Bruce Wayne, Batman's alter ego, as his son and protege. Following the ''Crisis on Infinite Earths'' event and the rebooting of DC's main comics universe, Jason's origin was changed to being a pre-teen street urchin and petty thief who Bruce adopted and mentored after finding the boy attempting to steal the tires off of the Batmobile.
