Broughty F.C.
Broughty Football Club was an association football club from Broughty Ferry, Dundee, Scotland. History Broughty was founded in 1882 and its earliest recorded match was that December, a 1–1 draw at home to East End Wanderers. The media sometimes referred to the club as Broughty Ferry but its registered name was simply Broughty. It was immediately active in local football, being one of the 17 clubs which founded the Forfarshire Football Association in February 1883, and the club's Mr Scott becoming the organization's first secretary. The club was therefore one of the first competitors in the first Forfarshire Cup in 1883–84, but its debut was as disastrous as could be, losing 22–0 to Dundee Harp, a world record at the time. Chastened by this, Broughty did not enter the following season, but in August 1885 the club joined the Scottish Football Association, and entered the Scottish Cup for the first time, as well as trying the Forfarshire again. Friockheim is a village in Angus, Scotland dating from 1814. It lies between the towns of Arbroath, Brechin, Forfar and Montrose. History The name 'Friockheim', literally translated, means 'Heather Home', with Friock being a derivative from the Gaelic 'fraoch' (heather) and 'heim' from the German for home. The word 'Friockheim' as a whole, is pronounced 'Free-come'. The birth of the village took place soon after 1814 when Thomas Gardyne of Middleton succeeded his brother as the laird of the lands of Friock and feued them to Mr John Andson, of Arbroath, who built a flax spinning mill and as proprietor-in-feu attracted many textile workers to come and settle on easy terms in what was at first known as Friock feus. Brechin (; gd, Breichin) is a city and former Royal burgh in Angus, Scotland. Traditionally Brechin was described as a city because of its cathedral and its status as the seat of a pre-Reformation Roman Catholic diocese (which continues today as an episcopal seat of the Scottish Episcopal Church), but that status has not been officially recognised in the modern era. Broughty Ferry (; Scottish Gaelic: ''Bruach Tatha''; Scots: ''Brochtie'') is a suburb of Dundee, Scotland. It is situated four miles east of the city centre on the north bank of the Firth of Tay. The area was a separate burgh from 1864 until 1913, when it was incorporated into Dundee. Historically it is within the County of Angus. Formerly a prosperous fishing and whaling village, in the 19th century Broughty Ferry became a haven for wealthy jute barons, who built their luxury villas in the suburb.
