Broomhill, Manitoba
Broomhill is a community in the Municipality of Two Borders, Manitoba, Canada. The community is located on Manitoba Highway 345, Highway 345 between the communities of Tilston, Manitoba, Tilston and Bede, Manitoba, Bede, approximately 124 km south-west of Brandon, Manitoba only 25 km north-west of the Town of Melita, Manitoba, Melita. The town was named for the abundance of Broom plants that were seen growing on the sandhills in the area. This area is commonly known for its rare mix of grasslands and wildlife. Infrastructure Broomhill was served by the Canadian Pacific Railway on its Alida subdivision until a storm in the spring of 1976 washed out the bridge over the Souris River near Lauder Manitoba. The bridge was never repaired and the line was salvaged beginning in 1978. It is currently accessible via Manitoba Provincial Road 345, Highway 345. Pipestone is a community in southwestern Manitoba, Canada. Located at the corner of Highways 2 and 83, Pipestone is approximately from either Virden or Melita, approximately to the United States border and approximately to the Saskatchewan border. Reston is an unincorporated community recognized as a local urban district in southwestern Manitoba, located near the border of Saskatchewan on the west and North Dakota on the south. It is the largest community in the Rural Municipality of Pipestone, which also includes Sinclair, Cromer and Pipestone. History The name of the community was derived from the area where many of the original settlers came from, which was Reston Junction in Berwickshire, Scotland. The post office opened in 1890 on land location 9-7-27W. Melita () is a town located in the south-western corner of the Canadian province of Manitoba. It is surrounded by the Municipality of Two Borders and occupies a bend of the Souris River.
