Garfield Township, officially the Charter Township of Garfield, is a charter township of Grand Traverse County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 census, the township had a total population of 19,499. Garfield Township is the largest municipality in Northern Lower Michigan by population. Much of the township is suburban, due to its proximity to Traverse City. It is one of four charter townships in the Traverse City metropolitan area; the others being Elmwood Township in Leelanau County, and East Bay and Long Lake townships in Grand Traverse County. History The first two townships of Grand Traverse County were organized in 1853; the Old Mission Peninsula was assigned to Peninsula Township, with its present-day boundaries, and the rest of the county, including Traverse City, was assigned to Traverse Township. Kids Creek
Kids Creek is a stream in Grand Traverse County, Michigan in the United States. The stream is a tributary of the Boardman River, which itself flows into Grand Traverse Bay, a bay of Lake Michigan. The stream drains an area of about . The stream is so named because fishing in the stream was originally restricted to children. Previous names for the stream include Mill Creek, Hospital Creek, and Asylum Creek. Watercourse The primary watercourse of Kids Creek, according to the GNIS, begins south of South Airport Road in Garfield Township, and flows northeasterly. Long Lake Township, officially the Charter Township of Long Lake, is a charter township of Grand Traverse County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 9,956 at the 2020 census, an increase from 8,662 at the 2010 census. Long Lake Township is one of three charter townships in Grand Traverse County, the others being East Bay Township and neighboring Garfield Township.
