Brooklyn District Attorney
The Kings County District Attorney's Office, also known as the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office, is the district attorney's office for Kings County, coterminous with the Borough of Brooklyn, in New York City. The office is responsible for the prosecution of violations of the laws of New York. (Violations of federal law are prosecuted by the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York). The current district attorney is Eric Gonzalez. History In a legislative act of February 12, 1796, New York State was divided into seven districts, each with its own Assistant Attorney General. Kings County was part of the First District, which also included Queens, Richmond, Suffolk, and Westchester counties. Brooklyn is a Boroughs of New York City, borough of New York City located at the westernmost end of Long Island in the New York (state), State of New York. John Adams Dix
John Adams Dix (July 24, 1798 – April 21, 1879) was an American politician and military officer who was Secretary of the Treasury, Governor of New York and Union major general during the Civil War. He was notable for arresting the pro-Southern Maryland General Assembly, preventing that divided border state from seceding, and for arranging a system for prisoner exchange via the Dix–Hill Cartel, concluded in partnership with Confederate Major General Daniel Harvey Hill. Biography Dix was born in Boscawen, New Hampshire on July 24, 1798, the son of Timothy Dix and Abigail Wilkins, and brother of composer Marion Dix Sullivan. He was educated at Phillips Exeter Academy, and joined the US Army as an ensign in May 1813, serving under his father until the latter's death a few months later. Winchester Britton (April 9, 1826 - February 13, 1886) was an American attorney and politician from New York. Early life He was born on April 9, 1828, in North Adams, Massachusetts. Named Sebre Winchester Britton, Jr., in early manhood he changed his name. His mother died when he was very young, and his father removed with him to Troy, New York when Winchester was 10 years of age. After receiving a preparatory education at the Clinton Liberal Institute, in Clinton, Oneida County, New York, and the Troy Conference Academy, in Poultney, Vermont, Britton went to Union College, from which he graduated with honors. William W. Rockwell (July 21, 1824 –January 9, 1894) was an American politician from New York (state), New York. Life Born in Hadley, New York, Hadley, Saratoga County, New York, he attended the common schools, and graduated from Bennington, Vermont, Bennington Academy. He was Supervisor of the Town of Hadley in 1846 and 1847; and a member of the New York State Assembly (Saratoga Co., 2nd D.) in 72nd New York State Legislature, 1849. Afterwards he became a merchant in Glens Falls, New York, Glens Falls.
