Broadway (Chicago)
Broadway is a major street in Chicago's Lake View, Chicago#Lakeview (East), Lake View, Uptown, Chicago, Uptown, and Edgewater, Chicago, Edgewater Chicago community areas, community areas on the city's North Side, running from Diversey Parkway (2800 North) to Devon Avenue (Chicago), Devon Avenue (6400 North). Originally called Evanston Avenue, the name of the street was changed to Broadway on August 15, 1913, as part of 467 road name changes enacted on that date. The new name was taken from New York City's famous theater district. The street runs at a mostly southeast-to-northwest diagonal direction between Diversey Parkway and Lawrence Avenue (4800 North). Between Lawrence Avenue and Devon Avenue, Broadway runs in a north-to-south direction and becomes 1200 West in place of Racine Avenue. Uptown Broadway Building
The Uptown Broadway Building is a historic three-story building at 4703–4715 North Broadway (Chicago), Broadway in Uptown, Chicago. Built in 1926, it was designed by Walter W. Ahlschlager and is known for its ornate terra-cotta facade depicting ancient gods, rams' heads, shields, helmets, birds, fruits, and trophies.. Lynn Becker of the ''Chicago Reader'' has called the exterior "a riotous, Spanish Baroque architecture, Spanish-baroque-inspired hallucination". According to unconfirmed local legends, Al Capone operated a speakeasy in the building's basement. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. It is also listed as part of the Uptown Square Historic District. Foster Avenue (5200 N) is a major east-west street on the North Side of Chicago as well as the northwestern suburbs. Foster Avenue serves as the boundary line for the Chicago community areas of Edgewater to the north and Uptown to the south. Foster Avenue runs westward from Lake Michigan to East River Road (8800 W.) and picks up again west of Des Plaines River Road to connect Chicago to O'Hare Airport. Purple Line Express
The Purple Line of the Chicago "L" is a route on the northernmost section of the system. The service normally begins from in Wilmette and ends at on Chicago's north border, passing through the city of Evanston. North Side Main Line
The North Side Main Line is a branch of the Chicago "L" system that is used by Red, Purple, and Brown Line trains. As of 2012, it is the network's busiest rail branch, serving an average of 123,229 passengers each weekday. The branch is long with a total of 21 stations, from Howard Street in Rogers Park down to Lake Street in Chicago's Loop. The branch serves the north side of the city 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Since 2005, this branch has been renovated several times and is currently being reconstructed. LaSalle Street Station is a commuter rail terminal at 414 South LaSalle Street in downtown Chicago. First used as a rail terminal in 1852, it was a major intercity rail terminal for the New York Central Railroad until 1968, and for the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad until 1978, but now serves only Metra's Rock Island District.
