Franklin County is a county in the U.S. state of Tennessee. It is located on the eastern boundary of Middle Tennessee in the southern part of the state. Winchester, Tennessee
Winchester is a city in and the county seat of Franklin County, Tennessee, United States. It is part of the Tullahoma, Tennessee Micropolitan Statistical Area. The population of Winchester as of the 2020 census was 9,375. History Winchester was created as the seat of justice for Franklin County by act of the Tennessee Legislature on November 22, 1809, and was laid out the following year. The town is named for James Winchester, a soldier in the American Revolution, first Speaker of the Tennessee Legislature, and a brigadier general in the War of 1812. Mary Sharp College (originally the "Tennessee and Alabama Female Institute", but later renamed in honor of Mary Corn Sharp, a donor) was founded in 1851 by Z. C. Graves and the Baptist Church. Tennessee State Route 476
State Route 476 (SR 476) is a state highway in Tennessee designated in 2007, located north and west of Winchester. It was created as an access road to Tims Ford Lake, which it crosses twice, and Tims Ford State Park. The route is located entirely in Franklin County, Tennessee. Route description SR 476 begins at SR 50 west of Winchester in the community of Broadview. It goes northwest as Mansford Road through farmland before crossing its first bridge over the Elk River/Tims Ford Lake. SR 476 then passes through Tims Ford State Park before coming to an intersection with Awalt Road, which it turns right onto to cross the second bridge over Tims Ford Lake. It then continues northeast through rural areas before to an end at a y-intersection with SR 130 just south of Tullahoma. The entire route of SR 476 is a rural two-lane highway.
