Brno-Kníničky is a city district on the northwestern edge of the city of Brno, Czech Republic. It consists of the municipal part and cadastral territory of Kníničky (), originally a municipality that was annexed into Brno in 1960. Its covers an area of 10.93 km. The city district was established on 24 November 1990. It has about 1,100 inhabitants. Brno Reservoir
The Brno Reservoir, previously known as the Kníničky Reservoir (, also known as ''Prýgl'' in Hantec slang) is a reservoir on the Svratka River at the northwest edge of the city of Brno, Czech Republic. The construction of a dam on the 56th kilometre of the Svratka River, and the resultant flooding of the river valley containing the village of Kníničky, created the reservoir. The reservoir used to serve as a water reserve for Brno (water from the Vír Reservoir and from wells in Březová nad Svitavou are used today). It remains a place for recreation, and also a source of electric power. The administrator of the Brno Reservoir is the state-owned enterprise Povodí Moravy, s.p. Brno-City District () is a district in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic. The district is coterminous with the city of Brno. Geography Brno-City District has a hilly and forested character in the northwestern part and flat and deforested in the southeastern part. On the border of these landscapes there is a large built-up area of the city. The territory extends into three geomorphological mesoregions: Bobrava Highlands (west and centre), Dyje–Svratka Valley (south and east), and Drahany Highlands (north). Svratka (river)
The Svratka (; ) is a river in the Czech Republic, a left tributary of the Thaya River. It flows through the Vysočina Region, Vysočina and South Moravian Region, South Moravian regions, including the city of Brno. It is long, making it the 9th longest river in the Czech Republic. Etymology According to one theory, the name originates from the Proto-Slavic language, Proto-Slavic verb ''vort'' (''vrátit'' in modern Czech), which meant "to return". D43 Motorway (Czech Republic)
D43 motorway (), formerly Expressway R43 () is a highway in the Czech Republic. If completed, it will connect cities Brno and Moravská Třebová, and the D1 motorway with the D35 motorway. First project in that route was created after Munich Agreement by Nazi Germany, as an ex-territorial Autobahn A88 Breslau - Wien, passing through territory of The Second Republic of Czechoslovakia with custom houses on all exits. Construction began in April 1939, during German occupation of Czechoslovakia and was halted on 73 km of route in April 1942 due to the increasing demands of World War II.
