The British Association of Social Workers (BASW) is the largest professional association of registered social workers in the United Kingdom. The association has a members' code of ethics that outlines best social work practice and works to support social workers and care managers through education and resources. Institute Of Medical Social Workers
The Institute of Medical Social Workers (IMSW) was the main professional body for medical social workers in the United Kingdom. It was formed from several "Almoners" organisations and took this name from 1964 until 1970. Ann Davidson Kelly was its first and only General Secretary. The Almoners' Committee was established in 1903 and successively changed its name to the Hospital Almoners' Committee in 1911, the Association of Hospital Almoners in 1920, and the Hospital Almoners' Association in 1927. The Modern Records Centre (MRC) is the specialist archive service of the University of Warwick in Coventry, England, located adjacent to the Central Campus Library. It was established in October 1973 and holds the world's largest archive collection on British industrial relations, as well as archives relating to many other aspects of British social, political and economic history. Community is a British trade union which formed in 2004. Enid Charis Warren OBE (22 May 1903 – 17 September 1980) was a British medical social worker. Life Warren was born in Finchley in 1903. Her parents were Walter Richard Warren (a barrister) and his wife, Annie (born Dixon). She was one of five daughters. When she was a child the family from Finchley to Highgate in London She attended the North London Collegiate School, like all of her sisters.Her eldest sister, Marjory Warren, became a doctor of geriatrics, and another a teacher. Warren decided on almoning because she wanted to help people. In 1942, she became the head almoner at Hammersmith Hospital in London. In 1961, she became the chair of the Institute of Almoners. During her time the institute became the Institute of Medical Social Workers. In 1966 she stood down from the position and she was awarded an OBE. Kay McDougall OBE born Kate Florence Long aka Kate Florence McDougall (6 November 1910 – 29 June 1999) was a British psychiatric social worker. She led the formation of the British Association of Social Workers and she was its first member. Life McDougall was born in Camberwell in 1910 (One source says 1919). Her father was a socialist and the family were working class. In 1937 she was a psychiatric social worker having completed a course at the London School of Economics and she went to work at Warlingham Park Hospital in Croyden. She led the Social Work department at the London School of Economics. Napo (formerly the National Association of Probation Officers) is the trade union and professional association that represents probation staff including probation officers and other operational and administrative staff and Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service staff in England.
