The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. Burlington is a town in Burlington Township, Carroll County, Indiana, United States. The population was 603 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lafayette, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. State Road 22 connects it to Kokomo. History Burlington was laid out in 1832 by David Stipp – an employee of the General Land Office in Crawfordsville, Indiana – about a year after settlers first appeared in the area. Stipp donated land for the town's first school house. The town was incorporated in 1967. It is named for Wyandot Chief Burlington. In 1830, work began on the Michigan Road which passed directly through the center of town. Winamac Southern Railway
The Winamac Southern Railway is a short-line railroad in northern Indiana, United States, operated under lease by the Toledo, Peoria and Western Railway. It owns two lines radiating from Logansport to Kokomo and Bringhurst, and formerly a third to Winamac, all former Pennsylvania Railroad lines acquired from Conrail in 1993. It hauls mainly outbound grain and inbound agricultural supplies, connecting with the Toledo, Peoria and Western Railway at Logansport and with the Central Railroad of Indianapolis at Kokomo.
