Brereton Social Football Club is a football club based in Brereton in Rugeley, Staffordshire, England. The club are currently members of the and play at the Red Lion Ground. History Brereton Social F.C. was formed in 1899. The team have spent three separate spells as members of the West Midlands (Regional) League. The first began in 1968–69 and lasted for twenty years. During that time they won promotion form Division One in 1971–72 but they never finished higher than fourth until they left the league during the 1987–88 season to join the Staffordshire County League (South). They rejoined the West Midlands (Regional) League in 1995–96 and stayed in Division One North until the club folded in 1999. A year later the club was reformed and rejoined the league, finishing in second place in 2005–06 before being transferred sideways to the Midland Combination Premier Division. Brereton, Staffordshire
Brereton is a civil parish and village in the Cannock Chase District in Staffordshire, England. At the 2001 census, the parish had a population of 6,524, increasing to 6,538 at the 2011 Census. History The village was previously a mining community, with several mines in the Brereton area. The Leahall Mine was the largest and last to close of the local mines, all of which have now ceased to operate. Recently part of the mine area has been redeveloped as the Towers Business Park, set around the Towers Point building. A 2,300-home housing development is now planned for the Leahall site. In the village There are several churches within the village. The Brereton Methodist Church, built in 1809, was the first church building in Brereton. There is also the Church of St. Michael's (Church of England). The Football Association Challenge Vase, usually referred to as the FA Vase, is an annual football competition for teams playing in Steps 5 and 6 of the English National League System (or equivalently, tier 9 or 10 of the overall English football league system). The Football Association Challenge Trophy, commonly known as the FA Trophy, is a men's football knockout cup competition run by and named after the English Football Association and competed for primarily by semi-professional teams. The competition was instigated in 1969 to cater to those non-league clubs that paid their players and were therefore not eligible to enter the FA Amateur Cup. The English football league system, also known as the football pyramid, is a series of interconnected leagues for men's association football clubs in England, with five teams from Wales, one from Guernsey, one from Jersey and one from the Isle of Man also competing. Midland Football Combination
The Midland Football Combination was an English football league covering parts of the West Midlands. It comprised five divisions, a Premier Division, Divisions One and Two and two Reserves Divisions. The league was one of three official feeder leagues to the Midland Football Alliance. Prior to 2006, the Premier Division was defined as step 7 in the National League System, even though it fed into the step 5 Midland Alliance. In 2006, it was re-graded as step 6, making teams in the top two divisions eligible to take part in the FA Vase and teams in the top division eligible to enter the FA Cup. Staffordshire County League (South)
The Staffordshire County League (South) was an English football league that existed from 1892 until 1996 and catered for clubs in the South Staffordshire area. It was also known at various times as the Walsall & District Junior League, Walsall & District League, and Walsall Senior League. History The league was formed as the Walsall & District Junior League in May 1892 following a meeting of representatives of various local clubs at the People's Coffee House in Walsall.
