A civil township is a widely used unit of local government in the United States that is subordinate to a county, most often in the northern and midwestern parts of the country. The term town is used in New England, New York, and Wisconsin to refer to the equivalent of the civil township in these states; Minnesota uses "town" officially but often uses it and "township" interchangeably. Petersburg (formerly, Petersburgh) is an unincorporated community in Delaware County, Iowa, United States. It lies at an elevation of 1112 feet (339 m). History The first building, a store, was built in Petersburg in 1873. The post office was established in 1874. Petersburg's population was 76 in 1902. Saints Peter and Paul parish is a Roman Catholic parish in the Archdiocese of Dubuque. The Saints Peter and Paul Church was completed and consecrated in 1906. Dyersville is a city in eastern Delaware County and western Dubuque County in the U.S. state of Iowa. It is part of the Dubuque, Iowa, Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 4,477 at the time of the 2020 census, up from 4,035 in 2000. History Dyersville was laid out in 1851. It was named for early landowner James Dyer (1820-1864).
