Breedlove Guitars
Breedlove Guitars is an American acoustic instrument company based in Bend, Oregon. Breedlove produces acoustic guitars, acoustic bass guitars, and ukuleles. History and background Breedlove Guitars was established In 1990 by California luthiers Larry Breedlove and Steve Henderson, who left their jobs at Taylor Guitars to create what would become Breedlove Guitars. Their intention was to produce guitars that merged traditional guitar making skills with modern technology. After moving to Tumalo, Oregon, Breedlove and Henderson began specializing in custom, fingerstyle six and twelve string guitars. In 1991 the first Breedlove guitar model appeared, the shallow body C-10. At the 1992 NAMM Show, Breedlove and Henderson unveiled five models and three body types. Dreadnought (guitar Type)
The dreadnought is a type of acoustic guitar developed by American guitar manufacturer C.F. Martin & Company. The style, since copied by other guitar manufacturers, has become one of the most common for acoustic guitars. In its most frequently encountered shape it is characterized by square shoulders, a relatively flat tail end, a wide waist with a large radius curve, and a 14-fret neck (i.e., 14 frets clear of the body) although when first introduced, the body was longer, with round shoulders, and only 12 frets clear of the body. At the time of its creation in 1916 the word ''dreadnought'' referred to a large, all big-gun, modern battleship of the type pioneered by in 1906. A body much larger than most other guitars provided the dreadnought with a bolder, perhaps richer, and often louder tone. Cocobolo
Cocobolo is a tropical hardwood of Central American trees belonging to the genus ''Dalbergia''. Only the heartwood of cocobolo is used; it is usually orange or reddish-brown, often with darker irregular traces weaving through the wood. The heartwood changes color after being cut and can be polished to a lustrous, glassy finish. Being quite dense and sometimes having a relative density of over 1.0, it will sink in water. The sapwood (not often used) is a creamy yellow with a sharp boundary between it and the heartwood. Christopher Hillman (born December 4, 1944) is an American musician. He was the original bassist of the Byrds. With frequent collaborator Gram Parsons, Hillman was a key figure in the development of country rock, defining the genre through his work with the Byrds, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Manassas (band), Manassas and the country-rock group the Desert Rose Band. Richard Gilewitz is an American acoustic guitarist. He is known for his use of the fingerstyle technique. Biography Gilewitz was born in San Diego and was raised in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and Huntsville, Alabama. He attended the University of Alabama, obtaining degrees in computer science, mathematics and music. After graduating, he worked in a range of computer-related jobs for several years, including flight simulator design and in the satellite industry, before deciding to become a full-time guitarist. He lived in Inverness, Florida, for 30 years before moving to Chicago. Musical style Gilewitz specializes in fingerstyle guitaring, using both standard six-string and twelve-string guitars. Edward Gerhard
Ed Gerhard is an American Grammy Award winning guitarist. He is known for his acoustic fingerstyle guitar playing and lap steel guitar music. Career Gerhard was born in Abington, Pennsylvania. He started playing guitar when he was fourteen, inspired by seeing classical guitarist Andrés Segovia on television. He was also influenced by the open tunings of folk guitarist John Fahey. In 1987 Gerhard released his debut solo album, ''Night Birds''. He established Virtue Records in 1991 as a record label for his work and for instrumental acoustic guitar music.
